Seems a bit niche, only for those whose tax is due in April?
    I think....

    Tariffs on Teslas?

AIUI, that would actually be technically difficult to implement. It would not be a counter-tariff based on source of origin, which is the normal basis for determination.
It would be quite easy, at present, for any USA-owned car manufacturer to simply manufacture within the USA for USA market and external to USA for RoW markets.  In the case of Tesla, that would mean cars destined for the UK being manufactured in Berlin or Shanghai which is where I think most of the UK vehicles originate from in any case.

I shall not comment further as I am mindful of not veering into political content.
This, the rest of the world do not seem to want to buy US manufactured cars for whatever reason whereas US consumers like their foreign luxury motors.
Who wants huge gas guzzling SUV's and Pick Up's ?  The best selling vehicle in the the USA in 2024 was the Ford F-150 full-size pickup.  Comes in several powertrains including a traditional V-8 and two turbocharged V-6s.  Not ideal for the UK's suburban road's or the school run. Let along parking in the street or the supermarket.

No surprise that reliable Japanese cars dominate the charts for saloon vehicles. When it's a market ignored by the US majors.

Bought ours off the lease company in the last few days. Now taxed, £0 until 28 Feb ‘26. Away at the moment so it won’t be used until 1 April, I was thinking we could have SORN’d it until 1 April and taxed it from 1 April, thereby getting a whole month free!

Not sure it works like that,  I think it is only for people whose tax was due in April who can renew early, I think if you wait until April then you pay the new rate.

You can indeed, the question is whether you can also get April free or not.

EV sales YTD (first table) compared to the first 3 months of 2024. Broadly speaking Tesla sales are performing at a similar level to other manufacturers, with most having lost a little market share. The stand out differences are VW (up) and MG (down) with Mini at 10th and BYD making an appearance at 13th. There will no doubt be a last minute rush in the last few days of the month which will lift totals.

Investigation: Has Elon Musk ruined Tesla? Here’s what car dealers are really seeing

A range of opinions are expressed in this report. I won’t cherry pick; you can draw whatever conclusions you wish.

Battery electric vehicle values face the most pressure in March – Cap HPI

‘On the brighter side, 6% actually saw positive adjustments! And despite a wave of negative media coverage, the Tesla Model Y held steady, while the Model 3 dipped by just 1% or £163, which is slightly better than the average for all BEVs this month.’

This report isn’t about opinions, just analysis of prices and it seems used Tesla values are now holding up, even if they have taken a knock over the last few months.

1st Quarter deliveries across the piste will be the telling factor.  BYD's broader line up of vehicles will increasingly leave Tesla behind.
