It is quite frightening how the prices of all cars have sky-rocketed.
A quick look on Autotrader just now and 2023 or newer with max 5k miles returns less than 2k cars available at a price cap of £16k0 -
something like a low mileage Corsa price have gone up a little lately buy this should change when the Chinese start flooding the market .I usually run my cars for over 10 years so can wait

I thought I'd share an energy efficiency observation.
Minus 1 deg C outside this morning.
Got in the EV today and, by the end of the road, the heat pump was in operation to warm the cabin (which it was doing a good job). Energy display was showing 1,720 Wh/mile.
By arriving at the supermarket, the "current journey" energy consumption was 1,050 Wh/mile.
Obviously, and extreme circumstance, but seems to show that short journey could have a similar impact to short journeys in an ICE.2 -
I came across these two successive days’ posts from Auto Express - their car deals of the day both PCH. Obviously they think these are both good deals but when we compare them on a like for like monthly cost basis (spreading deposit over the 24 months and both 8,000 miles) the comparative figures are £436/month for the Nissan and £299/ month for the Skoda. That’s £137/month (£1644/ annum extra for the Nissan). It’s not clear what is included but let’s assume VED is not which I think would add about £16/ month to the Skoda’s cost bringing the difference down to £121/month. The Skoda does around 51mpg so the petrol cost per mile will be about 12p/mile. The Nissan, assuming 100% home charging at a 2p/mile will save around £800 in fuel. Now, of course the Nissan is a more expensive car but it only costs around £600/year more after adjusting for fuel. If you want an EV, it’s probably worth it. That’s the sort of dilemma the private motorist considering a switch to an EV faces. £50/month probably isn’t a lot to a typical couple with a £50k income but if you have two kids then money might be tighter and the Skoda may win out.
Car Deal of the Day: Nissan Ariya award-winning, 330-mile EV for £274 a month
Available on lease aggregator Leaseloco, this two-year Personal Contract Hire (PCH) agreement requires an initial payment of £3,291, followed by 24 monthly payments of £274. That’s a chunky initial rental, however, shrinking it from 12 to nine months worth of payments brings it down to £2,697, while monthly payments only increase by £25.
Similarly, the annual mileage limit for the deal we found is 5,000 miles per year, but this can be increased to 8,000 miles for about £25 a month more. You

What’s great about this particular Personal Contract Hire (PCH) agreement is the very generous annual mileage limit of 8,000 miles per year, instead of the typical 5,000 or 6,000 miles. Better still, if you spend a lot of time on the road and need to increase the limit to 10,000 miles, it costs you less than £4 extra a month.
This two-year deal also requires a reasonable initial payment of £2,392, then the low monthly payments of £199 thereafter.

Surely you need to compare an SUV Vs an SUV? Isn't the Octavia more equivalent to a leaf?I think....0

A shame charging stations are making a loss but that can be rectified, wait till there are enough EV's on the road (say 20 years) then rocket the price of charging, just like they did with diesel.
Can't wait till they put a charging point near my flat so I can pay more than my ICE fuel
Luckily I will be 6 feet under by then0 -

or £204.39 plus £2452.68 for 8k miles p.a. That’s equivalent to £306.59 with the deposit spread over 24 months.https://www.leaseloco.com/car-leasing/nissan/qashqai
Or you could look at the petrol version which is £177.73 plus £2,132.76 initial deposit.https://www.leaseloco.com/car-leasing/nissan/qashqai
or for 8k miles £187.60 plus £2,251.20 deposit. That’s equivalent to £281.40 with the deposit spread monthly.

Just as a comparison, 2 year/8k miles for the Tesla Model Y Long range works out at £458/month and £5496 deposit, marginally cheaper than the Model 3 Long range which costs £470.41/month plus deposit of £5644.92.
I hadn’t quoted the figures for 8k miles in the Nissan Ariya but here they are £309.72/month with £3716.64 deposit.I should add that the deposit includes the first months rental so the total cost over 24 months works out at £10840.2 or £451.75/month.The total cost over 24 months for the MYLR works out at £16030 or £667.92/ month and for the M3LR £16464.35 or £686.01/month
Revisiting the Qashqai, the e-Power works out at £7153.65 or £298.07/month and for the petrol Qashqai £6566 or £273.58/month.Edit: just looking at SalSac for a moment. The business lease costs are the same for the Qashqai at £258.10/ month excluding VAT. I ‘m not sure how VAT works out under SalSac but assuming it was still payable and your company could lease the Ariya at £309.72/ month inclusive if VAT then after including the deposit the total cost would again be £451.75/month which but SalSac would drop the cost for a 40% taxpayer to £271.05/month. There may be a saving on N.I. (I don’t know) but if there was it would probably cover the BIK which is probably around £35/40 per month. The cost of a Nissan Ariya for a 40% taxpayer on SalSac, therefore, is probably is not far off the cost of a PCH deal on a Qashqai and of course that is before fuel savings.Northern Lincolnshire. 7.8 kWp system, (4.2 kw west facing panels , 3.6 kw east facing), Solis inverters, Solar IBoost water heater, Mitsubishi SRK35ZS-S and SRK20ZS-S Wall Mounted Inverter Heat Pumps, ex Nissan Leaf owner)1
