Chase account

Options
Hi all - sorry if this has been covered elsewhere. I've just applied for the Chase 1.5 saver account. I know nothing about Chase so would like to ask are they a 'safe' bank and are they covered in the UK by the FSCS limit please?
Thanks Pete

Hi this has been covered in this forum before and the straight answers are yes and yes.
Chase Bank UK is part of JP Morgan Bank that has existed in the USA since 1877, moving into the UK market in September last year and is fully covered by the FSCS (up to the usual £85,000).
Chase is very popular at the moment and it is taking several weeks to open an account with them currently.

What annoys me about Chase is their identification process; mainly in that you are required to show either
    1. UK Driving License
    2. Passport
    3. EU Passport

Whilst for many this is not going to be an issue, for me though it makes the identification process unacceptable with Chase.

To explain; I am severely disabled and as such am no longer allowed to drive, as such I do not hold a UK Driving License. Further, due to my disabilities I cannot travel, meaning I do not hold either a Passport nor an EU Passport.

I contacted Chase on this matter explaining there are other official means in testing the identification of individuals (to name one the Blue Badge scheme has a photo ID). However, Chase are sticking to their guns and not accepting anyone who does not fit their tailored identity process.
This I feel is a short sightedness on their part.
Has anyone else had any similar issues?

I do indeed sympathise with your situation, but unfortunately you're going over old ground. Chase has set up their identification process from what's ideal for themselves, at the end of the day rules are rules and unfortunately one has to move on.
It happens to everyone, everyone will encounter situations in their lifetimes where they're ineligible for goods/services/memberships etc, not necessarily in the financial sector.

Life without a passport is very tiresome for the equivalent of £8 per year I would get one. I realise that £75.50 is a lot of money to some but quickly being able to prove your identity is convenient.

Yes they are “safe” as in they’re a big bank and FSCS protection.

Also people can apply for a provisional driving license which is reasonably cheap and, I believe is valid for 10 years....

So that would make a second piece of ID

Same for me, but what annoyed me more was they make no attempt to check people electronically. I've opened a number of accounts in the last few years, and all have been able to check me online in seconds. Even if I had a passport or driving licence, i wouldn't have sent it, I'm not going to take even a very small chance of ID documents being stolen if they won't try to verify me without them.

They don’t get you to send anything in, you just take a selfie and a photo of the ID, I set the account up in about 40 minutes 30 of those was waiting for the ID to be verified, there’s a much longer waiting period now.
