Now Ocado are no longer linked to Waitrose they charge the fairly standard £1.19 a packet, Also have the chocolate ones at £1.25 and bigger twin packs of the chocolate ones for £2 (£3.40 at Waitrose)2 -
In regards to Waitrose pricing, it is likely that they will go on offer at some point. They may choose to sell at £1.60 some of the time and £1 when on promotion, whereas some of the other supermarkets may choose never to put standard hobnobs on promotion and just charge £1.19 all the time.
Interestingly the chocolate hobnobs are on offer was £1.60 now £1.25 at Waitrose, but at Sainsbury's was £1.65 now £1.25, so full price actually higher at Sainsbury's for the chocolate ones.0 -

Prices are going up so fast that one day one supermarket is the most expensive, the next day another. When they settle a bit, the shops will maintain their relative positions of who is more expensive, who is cheaper.1

Now M&S has a 50% stake in Ocado so they may have more control over pricing.0 -
So not a rip off, simply more expensive than other retailers and quite open about it.
Although Waitrose do have an excellent essentials range, they are not in reality so much about the price.
Sadly we not longer live within 100 miles of a Waitrose so I've firmly transferred from Waitrose/Tesco to Lidl/Tesco and hubby likes biscuits so we've tried all the Lidl copies, they have passed extensive "testing"2 -
I’m surprised to be in a minority in calling out this rip off price Waitrose are charging for plain Hobnobs, think this is mse not the grocers forum.
Waitrose £1.60 although the ticket isn’t even on the shelf now at my local Waitrose.
Sainsbury, Tesco, Iceland, Morrisons, Ocado, Poundland, all £1.19 or within a few pence of it. Even Spar is only £1.29. So why would Waitrose Jack the price 60% in a couple of months. Not one of the previous posters is surprised and most feel it’s OK.
No one thinks it’s a rip off except me. 👍0 -

Retailers often put up the price of goods for a statutory period before reducing them again to make the offers look fantastic. I don't know why they do that these days, as there surely can't be that many gullible people that still fall for these tactics? You might find they'll be on promo next time you go in. An alternative thought may be that they want you to buy their own brand, and once you see the price of the McVities - you'll say to yourself oh I'll try the cheaper ones (but more profit) - and if you're daft enough to buy the dearer ons (still more profit). I'd go with the option they'll be cheaper next week.2
