Price at Waitrose went up recently from £1 a packet to £1.30 and now £1.60. Put it down to increased price of oats and wheat, EXCEPT on checking Tesco, Sainsbury and Morrisons are all or very close to £1.19 a packet.

So are Waitrose being charged more than other supermarkets to stock Hobnobs or is it unwarranted profiteering?

Even worse I just bought two packets at Waitrose because they were on offer at £1.25 only when I got home I had been charged £1.60 each! Checked online and it’s the chocolate coated ones that are reduced only Waitrose put the offer cards in front of the standard Hobnobs. Not uncommon at my local Waitrose putting wrong tickets in front of right items or vice versa!

Going off Waitrose.

Go on explain yourself Waitrose, why £1.60 when other supermarkets all sell at £1.19?

Supermarkets charge different prices for things, some have offers when others don’t. Just the way it goes.

Waitrose are known to have higher prices on certain things.

My Sainsburys is much more expensive than Tesco and Asda is even cheaper.

I have found that luxury items like biscuits are generally more expensive at Waitrose

If the chocolate ones are on offer as you say at £1.25 each, then that’s cheaper than Tesco so are you saying that Tesco are using unwanted profiteering too?

£1 to £1.60 within a couple of months!? That’s 60% increase, whilst their price for other hobnobs haven’t gone up at all.

I’d like to hear from Waitrose themselves on this. Obviously I’m  now going to drive four miles to Sainsbury to save 41p on Hobnobs in the future. I will be going there anyway.

Do you have a Lidl or Aldi near you ?
If so I recommend you try their Hob Nob 'looky likeys' (I think the Lidl ones are called 'Oaties') which many people apparently rate better than the Hobnobs themselves, and are probably half the price.....

Yes both. Aldi ones 36p a packet!

Going to phone Waitrose customer care in the week to see how they account for the two 30p increments in the last two months making a 60% increase from £1 to £1.60.

The ones covered in chocolate have gone up in price but are still 1/2 the price of other supermarkets. They are delicious so it's all too easy to demolish a whole pack before you know it.

They'll account for it on the basis that's what they sell them for.

Different outlets sell products at the price they set, based on demand and profit. If it's too high and they don't sell any, they can lower the price or cut the line.

I know that’s why I moved to plain Hobnobs especially with all the two packs for £2 offers on the chocolate ones too easy to scoff the lot! But the plain ones have been £1 for a long time before the recent big price rise.

Now Ocado are no longer linked to Waitrose they charge the fairly standard £1.19 a packet, Also have the chocolate ones at £1.25 and bigger twin packs of the chocolate ones for £2 (£3.40 at Waitrose)

I’ve phoned Waitrose customer care, he couldn’t really explain why the price increase but we settled on the price being increased by whoever supplies Waitrose and this may hit the other supermarkets eventually who may have greater buying power. Don’t know really! Promised to pass on my comments to head office, and any other relevant people.

You will have to excuse me now, I need a Hobnob 😊
