I have lived my life never having to use paypal so curious why people even use it?

(I use credit card for online purchases)
Well....  there are lots of reasons to use PayPal. Some people hate/mistrust/whatever it and never use it, and others (like me) use it as and when it's a useful thing.

Yes, its systems can be annoying at time but it is often convenient.

At the most basic is means no need (for sites that accept it) to enter your card info, so you reduce the risk of your card details being misused, as you rarely enter them.  Other systems do this too of course, but PayPal does it perfectly well so is one option of many.

It's easy to send money to others via PayPal.

It's easy (and for some sites essential) to get payments for work done from PayPal.

And for those (I'm one) who have online retail sites it's a good option for taking payments (alongside several other options, but PayPal is one of the most universal, and doesn't need a buyer to have a PayPal account).

But all of this is well off-topic.

This thread, unused since June 2022 but resurrected today by Wisedolly to repeat (not sure why!) the words they put in their own thread they've just set up anew today (see link above) is not about why use PayPal.

    Thanks - interesting reading.

Yes I can understand the merchant wanting to.use paypal it sounds a good option for them.

However for the customer paying - well I ***want*** to enter my card details - that way I get card protection

    Thanks for the reply though.

Sadly the trend of opt out instead of opt in is becoming a trend all over the place, e.g. ordering something or even filling in a contact us form to make a query usually now days puts you on a mailing list.
