Parking stories in the News/media

Looks like the new Statutory Code is imminent:
Not all good news though:
Jack Cousens, head of roads policy at the AA, said drivers "finally have something which could offer them better protections against the worst private parking operators". He said in the past they have "aggressively attacked drivers to the point where many simply pay up".But the RAC's head of policy Simon Williams said it wasn't the leap his firm had been campaigning for. He called for the banning of debt recovery fees being added on top of PCNs and said the current industry-run appeals bodies should be replaced by a single independent one.
The government said it will be consulting on the issue of debt recovery fees, as well as other recommendation from the Competition and Markets Authority.

Hopeless.
It'll just make them carry on scamming people, especially the £20 blink-and-you-miss-it 'discount' scam.
I'm glad I'm on holiday as this shht hits the fan.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Whilst disappointing, I hope this is a clever move from the ministry to get the code published and in force without risking another (threat of a) Judicial Review.
The BPA have already welcomed it, I guess the IPC will follow suit (something about raising the bar).
MHCLG can then let the CMA do their work with the code subsequently updated, although based on the progress so far that will be some time in 2030.Always remember to abide by Space Corps Directive 39436175880932/B:

Even Jake thinks it's rubbish (from LinkedIn) which suggests he thinks it will be business as usual. Bah.

One of the lead stories on Sky News again.
They keep calling them 'fines' which isn't helpful.2 -
The 5 min 'guaranteed consideration period' would appear to be fatal to his airport no stopping zones.

Nothing mentioned about Debt fees.

I guess that it is possible that the 'debt fees' issue is clarified by the '£100 max parking charge' statement.
The devil will be in the detail in that respect.

And to cover this story the BBC use footage of a council warden placing 'penalty charge notices' on car windscreens. They are clueless.
I fear there will be no significant changes and the number of invoices will increase as ANPR 'enforcement' becomes even more embedded.
