Tamar chief backs ANPR cameras as readers say 'crossings should be free'
The chief officer backs removing Tamar Bridge toll booths after visiting crossings using number plate camera tech.
Philip Robinson, chief officer for Tamar Crossings, made the comments at a joint meeting of Cornwall Council and Plymouth City Council's Tamar Bridge and Torpoint Ferry committee in Bodmin on Friday, September 25.Cornwall councillor Andrew Long, co chair of the committee, said the aim remained a toll free Tamar crossing for both the bridge and ferry. He said cheaper tolls for locals could be a first step, followed by removing the toll booths and introducing a different payment system.
Mr Robinson said Tamar Crossings was 'completely aligned' with that ambition, pointing to the Humber Bridge and Tyne Tunnels, where ANPR has replaced traditional toll booths.
"I'm really excited about the fact that this is something we must do and we can do,' he said. 'I am now convinced this is something we absolutely need to do.'
Oh dear.
IMHO, someone needs to tell him about the Warburton toll 'scam' operation and ideally warn them off using Excel (in case they were thinking of them) because the situation at Warburton toll bridge MUST be stamped on by the Government and CMA quite soon, and the DVLA need to learn lessons.

Aiport drop off fees/no stopping zones, the Warburton Toll Bridge and no the above, its all part of the same progression- a diversification of the PPCs business model.
Drop off fess, no stopping charges, private tolls can all fall outside the scope of parking, and with that any need to comply with any cumbersome code of practice, and more importantly for the future and need to comply with any statutory regulations the Government may bring in designed to put the parking companies on some sort of a lead.
The Car park is free, but there is a Toll to use the access road which in turn is free if you make your second ( return) crossing within 90 minutes after that a toll of £120 will apply

But then they shouldn't be able to get the keeper details as it falls outwith the scope of POFA?

You'd think so, but the fact anyone is willing to pay £2.50 must mean they have reasonable cause. It's an impossibility that anyone willing to pay £2.50 can't have reasonable cause. Otherwise they wouldn't be willing to pay £2.50.

We could do with this for PPCs and legals representing them
Introduce a “Proactive Billing Accuracy Act” to verify billing accuracy by mandating all organisations to carry out pre-issuance accuracy checks before issuing any bill, fine, invoice or enforcement notice.
The Act would include mandating evidence-based accuracy checks, mandatory audit trails, clear correction processes, automatic pause of enforcement when an error is reported, proportionate penalties for repeated or systemic inaccuracies, and mandatory remediation where inaccurate billing or reporting has caused financial detriment.
There is currently no consistent legal requirement for organisations to verify billing accuracy before issuing invoices or payment demands. This Act would apply across public & private sectors to reduce avoidable financial harm and improve trust in the billing and enforcement system.

PCNs cancelled, CPM say it was a technical issue following an upgrade to the hospital's payment machines, which prevented some payment data from reaching our system.
Two family members of patients at Stepping Hill Hospital in Stockport have hit out after being wrongly issued pcns after paying to park at the hospital and had to endure an arduous process to have them overturned.
One man 'fined' twice never received the initial pcn letters. The first he received stated he had lost his right to appeal and the amount now owed had increased, leading him to pay a total of £160. He set up a direct debit for £35 a month to pay the £160.
The second a woman said she knew her pcn was a 'mistake' and hoped it would be 'easily resolved.' However, she said the appeals process was an 'absolute joke from start to finish.'
She tried four times to appeal via the online portal and emailed several more times, but was ignored. She eventually submitted a complaint via an online form and also complained to Stepping Hill's Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS), as well as her local councillor.
She accepts mistakes happen, but said "there needs to be a proper system in place to challenge them - a system that actually works."

Yesterday's update from Elli Hodgson
Disabled drivers 'fined' while collecting prescriptions have won a long-standing battle to have their charges cancelled - but with a warning that fresh enforcement is on the way.
Mr Hurley has now confirmed the landowner has asked for enforcement to resume. Plans for a new sign stating that the land is private are now being considered. Mr Hurley said the message to pharmacy customers needed to be clear: Blue Badge parking is not permitted at the entrance to the industrial estate.

Russell's Hall hospital in Dudley has faced renewed criticism over parking charges
GroupNexus, the company subcontracted to run the day to day operations at the car park, issued a statement:
{all crap snipped. Nothing to see here}.
Dudley News reached out to both NHS England and the Department of Health and Social Care to see if they would speak out about the situation at Russell's Hall and to investigate if they have any future plans to de-privatise hospital car parking.
However, both have not given any comment.
The petition calls for a de-privatisation of hospital car parking throughout England
The above isn't a link. But this is:
