Parking stories in the News/media

Blue Badge holder Patricia Dobson, 77, unsuccessfully appealed a parking charge notice from Parkmaven at The Shires shopping centre. She said at the time:Now that the paper has got hold of the case and the shopping centre were made aware, Parkmaven have furiously back-pedalled and decided to 'fine' her £12.50 to cover 'admin'.
“I’m fed up of all these faceless brutes. They can put me in prison first."
So discounting the £2.50 the DVLA indirectly took off this woman, this demonstrates that the 'admin' involved in issuing a PCN, sending a reminder, then finally refusing her desperate, posted appeal, and then finally cancelling it (to sweep under the BPA's usual carpet) costs no more than a tenner all told.
Which we knew, and the DLUHC knows. How dare the rogue parking industry treat disabled shoppers like this, anyway? Why should they take £12.50 off her?
She's legally entitled to more free parking time anyway. Clear off, Parkmaven.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

A survey conducted on behalf of the BPA finds motorists are overwhelmingly opposed to recent proposals to reduce Parking Charge Notices (PCNs)
This survey ran for a week at the end of Oct 2023. Anybody on here seen it or were one of the 3031uk adults who got the opportunity to respond to it ????

This is the only info I can find on it.This view is supported by the BPA, who agree that selfish and rule-breaking motorists need to be sufficiently deterredThere you go, 11 million selfish, rule-breaking motorists. Motoring anarchy!A small, but significant, minority of motorists currently abuse the system. Government plans would actually reward those motorists to the detriment of those that follow the rules and park considerately. We are pleased that this survey confirms that the majority of road users and motorists agree. If 11 million is 'small', the 3,000 survey participant cohort is infinitesimally tiny in comparison ..... and is of absolutely insignificant value. We are pleased that this survey confirms that the majority of road users and motorists agree. There are some 41 million drivers in the UK. A survey of 3,000 is just 0.007% of the total. Statistically unstable, and terms like 'majority' cannot be attached to it. BPA BS!
Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .
I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.

The reporter has regurgitated the BPA press release verbatim and sourced no other details or views. Lazy journalism at its best. Or should that be worst?
The West Wales Chronicle is an 'online community newspaper' published from a portacabin near a vehicle repair shop in Llanelli and as such this 'story' is not worth the paper it's not written on2 -
I'd be interested to see the questions asked.
Last time the BPA did such a 'survey' it asked questions that related to parking enforcement in general, and people immediately thought of on street penalties. Then the BPA tried to use it to say people had said 'x y and z' about parking on private land. They hadn't.
The questions were also (deliberately?) written in a way that lead to a 'yes' answer IMHO (last time). I suspect this latest drivel was more of the same and I consider such surveys misleading propaganda.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

On a credibility eye test this survey looks like turkeys ARE voting for Christmas.
Customers never vote for a price increase!Who were surveyed? Who you ask is a tad important.
e.g I’ve surveyed five consecutive people paying at Wrexham’s Island Green ticket machine on an ECP managed retail car park.
“Have you or a friend had problems with paying at these machines”.
All five said yes, and two opened up to describe PCNs where the fright of the appeal mechanisms and consequences of debt companies made them pay. This may be open to BPA criticism of numbers, but I’ve asked the relevant people and even excluded those who refuse to park any longer at Island Green.
AND using Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) safety advice, this type of sampling is enough to justify work on improvement of patient process. So will BPA describe the surveyed motorists and the leading questions used?
(nb Walnut Unlimited are a marketing company who specialise in software allowing clients to produce their own demos to allow pitches to clients.)They may have interviewed a sample who were representative of the four UK nations, but no mention is made of being representative of the paying customer.
Not quite the Ipsos MORI of the survey world.

The BPA would gain more credibility if they stopped quoting rubbish, they must get this from their cranky debt collector members.
3000 SURVEYED ?? They mean all the parkig company staff
Government must have sussed out these cloud dreamers by now ??
