How do I calculate the distance of a connected flight?

I've had part of a flight from Edinburgh to Hannover via Frankfurt cancelled/rescheduled 2 days prior to departure.
I arrived in FRA on time but my onward flight was cancelled/rescheduled to a flight 6 hours later.
Which has a tool to write the letter for my claim and this calculates the direct distance between Edinburgh and Hannover, which 993km.
Citizen's advice has a tool that calculates the distance as the sum of the individual flights which would get me just above 1500km.
Which one do I base my claim on?

Frankfurt to Hannover is only 262km by air, so it doesn't actually matter....0

That's correct but Edinburgh to Frankfurt is on the same booking and Frankfurt is almost exactly beyond Hannover so it's like adding 262km twice.eskbanker said:Frankfurt to Hannover is only 262km by air, so it doesn't actually matter....
(I may also be a bit concerned about privacy and this may be a slightly different route including another location at similar but slightly longer distances).0 -
As the first limit is 1500km, for which you may be entitled to £220 compensation, the distance between Frankfurt and Hannover is irrelevant.0

Why didn't you just take the train?

Eh? That makes no sense at all - even if you did literally pass Hannover en route to Frankfurt, you still calculate the total distance flown by adding 262km (once) to the distance between Edinburgh and Frankfurt (1025km)!hkhkhk said:

If your posted flights were fictional and you were actually talking about a different journey, then the principle is that if it's all on the same ticket, you measure the distance from start of first flight to end of last flight.hkhkhk said:
