Dropped off a parcel at a collection access point, now gone missing.

I dropped off a parcel at ups collection access point. I got a receipt for dropping off.

Parcel has gone missing without being scanned in by a collection driver. Neither company wants to know has they say it’s not with Ups or at the final destination point. Basically it’s not left the access point. I’ve been back to access point and they say it’s not there.
Please could someone advise my options.

I have a receipt from dropping off the parcel, but it’s seems useless has no one wants to know or help. It leaves me to think either the person at the access point misplaced it or the collection driver didn’t scan it has collected. I see this as leaving people very vulnerable for loss.

What does tracking state, does it still state it's at the access point.  How long ago was this?

  • There is no tracking,. The person at access point scans it in so Ups knows there’s a parcel to be collected. I get a little card to say I dropped the parcel off. The collection driver would initiate the tracking once they scan it has collected. It’s been about a month now.

Who paid for this parcel delivery?
Did you pay for it yourself, Boxerlover, or was it a pre-paid label from a retailer? It makes a difference.
  • Pre-paid from a retailer.

Keep hold of that receipt like it's a winning lottery ticket.  As it's prepaid then that's your proof you have returned it and you should receive a refund.  Is the retailer refusing?

    Pre-paid from a retailer.
Retailer liable. They have to take up the issue with UPS if they lost it.

These drop off points are prone to so many problems. I avoid them now. if you can use lockers, less dispute as they have CCTV and scales etc.
  • Apart from probably making it more straightforward to get your money back, does it really matter whether the consumer or the retailer paid for the return, so long as the consumer can supply evidence of having sent the goods back to the retailer?  Isn't that all the consumer needs?

Its not the proof that makes them liable. Its the fact the provided the service that was accepted by the shopper.

We are going around in circles.
Who should the OP pursure? Is it  ups or the drop off point people?

IMO it should be UPS as it is part of their service - that is the pick-up point and that should be secure.

PS: Second thoughts, it should be the retailer as they took responsibility by providing a receipt.

It's the retailer the OP should pursue for a refund - they supplied the label and therefore it is they who have the contract with UPS.
