Smart gas and electricity meters with different energy suppliers - Am I heading for trouble? (Yes!)

£30 is the guaranteed service standard payment for a missed appointment, so they shouldn't try to offer less.gsmh said:Let them know you're unhappy and they will pay you £30 compensation. They might offer less, but tell them it's not enough! I took a day off work (unpaid) just to wait in for them.

They absolutely did with me!

Oh dear! It's my turn on Friday 8 am to 12 pm. EDF (ex-Zog) is my gas supplier and Octopus is my electricity supplier. Extant meters are both Liberty SMETS1. EDF is supposedly coming to swap out the gas meter only but I have little confidence.ToomanyPies said:Well they have missed their 8am to 12pm appointment and I have other things to get on with but stuck here. My electricity smart meter was originally installed by EDF but the data is now read by Octopus since I switched last year. I want to move my gas account to Octopus as well but EDF offered an early appointment for a meter install so I booked it only for them to not turn up!I have osteoarthritis in my hands so I speak my messages into a microphone using Dragon. Some people make "typos" but I often make "speakos".0 -

I ve just had a look at Octopus online to check their available tariffs but they don t want to show me any and will not accept my postcode.QrizB said:You should join the group of us who switched our gas to Octopus Tracker. It's a little bit of a gamble but it's currently working out a couple of pence per kWh cheaper than the SVT.If prices soar you can switch to Flexible Octopus and be no worse off.As their website says, you need to phone or email. They want to make sure you know what you're getting into with Tracker.
Yes, you really can.SAC2334 said:
Maybe they have changed that .I can t put in post code without clicking on quote ...Mstty said:https://octopus.energy/tariffs/
Don't click get quote just put in your postcode and they appear below with filters for you to chose
IGNORE THE BIG PURPLE BUTTONType in your postcode (or one for a nearby address, if it really doesn't like you) then scroll down the page. Your tariffs will appear. Filter on "domestic" and "flexible" and you'll find "Tracker V3" in the list.Something like this:

I don't think that's going to work without replacing both meters. Why not switch your gas to Octopus and they should be able to read the gas data from the Secure Liberty meterSterlingtimes said:

Thank you. My hunch is that EDF will turn up Friday morning and leave again without doing anything. Nonetheless, it will be interesting to see whether they upgrade the gas meter only or both meters. And then, what happens to IHDs?ToomanyPies said:I don't think that's going to work without replacing both meters. Won't touch the leccy meter as it's with another supplier. If he is a competent installer he may make the effort to get the gas meter communicating but much more likely that he will walk away consigning it to the "too difficult" pile !!!Sterlingtimes said:

Hannah from Octopus returned my email within 2 hrs and is starting the switching process which should take up to 17 days. She just wanted to know what type of meter I have , eg standard, smart , eco 7 , prepay . In my case its a standard for both1 -
Pretty much what happened to me when I had a gas account with EDF. The guy tried to get it communicating with my British Gas SMETS2 electricity meter and couldn't. He spent ages trying to get it to work.brewerdave said:Won't touch the leccy meter as it's with another supplier. Thank you. Did the technician try out the communications prior to fitting the meter, i.e. can the communications be worked upon prior to physically exchanging the meters?gsmh said:Pretty much what happened to me when I had a gas account with EDF.
