Smart gas and electricity meters with different energy suppliers - Am I heading for trouble? (Yes!)

I have different energy providers for electricity and gas. I have a SMETS2 electricity meter which is reliably sending half-hourly data which is essential for use with the Octopus Go tariff. EDF now want to install a smart gas meter which albeit not essential would mean not having to send manual readings from time to time. So my question is whether I am likely to be having problems with Octopus energy no longer receiving their electricity data after the gas meter has been installed? This is all a bit last minute as the gas meter is due to be installed in two days (Wednesday 8th). Also, has anyone experienced an issues with separate energy providers and smart meters?

You shouldn't, but you might, because engineers are human and sometimes screw things up. EDF are particularly goods at screwing things up, so that figure may end up being a little higher. How come you don't want your gas from Octopus?0

I used to be with Zog energy but they went to the wall last December and was then dumped onto EDF. I would happily switch to Octopus but they have actively been discouraging people from doing so and there hasn't been any financial incentive to do so.Astria said:.How come you don't want your gas from Octopus?1 -

I had a SMETS2 electricity meter from British Gas. My gas supply was from EDF. I made an appointment to have an EDF smart gas meter fitted but the engineer was unable to get the gas meter to communicate through the electrcity meter. He tried several times but had to abandon the installation. He said if the electricity meter was from EDF there wouldn't be a problem. EDF gave me a £30 credit in recompense. I have since moved to a Utility Warehouse dual fuel variable deal and they are able to read the electricity meter. I have booked a smart gas meter installation with them in August so hopefully they will be able to do the job.0

Only way to get to Octopus is to give them a ring and ask if you can move to them. It can be a matter of who you happen to speak to, took me 3 calls before I was accepted.Barnsley, South Yorkshire

Well they have missed their 8am to 12pm appointment and I have other things to get on with but stuck here. My electricity smart meter was originally installed by EDF but the data is now read by Octopus since I switched last year. I want to move my gas account to Octopus as well but EDF offered an early appointment for a meter install so I booked it only for them to not turn up!gsmh said:I had a SMETS2 electricity meter from British Gas. Let them know you're unhappy and they will pay you £30 compensation. They might offer less, but tell them it's not enough! I took a day off work (unpaid) just to wait in for them.
