Hi,
I need a broadband package for roughly 3 months - however all contracts are 18 months with heavy termination fees.
What are my options?

Look at Cuckoo, rolling 1 month contacts with a £60 set up fee1

Or try one of the cellular broadband suppliers, if coverage is adequate at your address.

As above, consider getting a 4G router and a suitable sim (assuming you have decent coverage from one of them) Three do a one month 100Gb for £24 or one month unlimited for £26Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers1

Not all contracts are 18 mths, there are 12 month contracts and some that have no contract with the payments of an activation fee. Now TV Broadband for example have a no contract option if you pay £60 up front activation fee, so for a 3 month expected use you're probably looking at around £42 per month total (eg, £22pm plus £60 activation). If that's too much then look at a payg SIM only 4G/5G contract.james_williamson_6544 said:Hi,

For fixed line broadband, your best bet is probably Cuckoo Broadband with their 30 day rolling contracts.
Alternatively, 4G mobile broadband (using a hotspot) which can be on 30 day contracts also.0 -
Don't they charge a £60 up front activation fee too?HaroldWren5 said:james_williamson_6544 said:Hi,

I believe that most of the providers charge a set up fee for 1 month contracts for a new line unless one is already with them. Including NOW broadband which is £65. They usually include an Openreach/Wholesaler charge. This is often waived when the contract is longer. Cuckoo has a £60 set up fee for 1 month contracts and zero set up fee for a 12 month contract. The poster was asking about a potential broadband solution for a 3 month period. Thus a monthly rolling contract would seem the best bet versus a 12, 18, 24 month contract.shiraz99 said:

I get that which is why I mentioned the Now BB package, which is a good deal cheaper than Cuckoo even taking the set up fees into account.HaroldWren5 said:

The cost of a cheap 4G MiFi unit or router is about the same as for the set up charge for a monthly rolling contract and you've got the benefit of being able to take it with you when you leave and using it anywhere you like (or anywhere with 4g coverage)
Even where I live out in the sticks I can get 25mbits with Three and I can take my MiFi unit away on holiday in my caravan, to a hotel or even on my mate's boat.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers1 -
For FTTC maybe. Not for FTTP. Customer service of Cuckoo scores 9.7/10 in MoneySavingExpert's customer service poll (with Cuckoo and then Zen topping the list). 51.8% of Now BB customers in the poll rated their service as "Great" compared to 94.1% of Cuckoo customers in the MSE poll.shiraz99 said:

As far being cheaper, then a 4G mobile hotspot with a rolling SIM would likely be the cheapest and faster than FTTC assuming a good 4G signal at the property. And as mentioned above, it would be portable.0
