Fredrickson International!!!

Hi
My daughter is getting loads of calls from Fredrickson International about an old Lloyds TSB debt. They are been extremely rude on the phone and when she told the guy on the phone she didnt have that kind of money, he asked her to go and get a credit card to pay of 1700 she owes.
She cannot remember when or what it is for, she thinks it was about five years ago, and its either an old loan or an old account overdraft she hasnt paid!
Any ideas what to do next and how do we stop these people ringing up at all hours of the day and night!

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks

I'd phone BT and ask them for a new number because you are having nuisance calls.

Then TSB would have to write (if they haven't already? ).

If your daughter does owe any money the letter should say what it's for.

Admit to nothing and let them do the work, that's what I say!

This is my personal opinion of course.
Karma - the consequences of ones acts."It's OK to falter otherwise how will you know what success feels like?"1 debt v 100 days £2000
  • There are template letters elsewhere on these boards that you can send to F.I. regarding requesting that they contact you in writing only & to put the debt into dispute until they can come up with details & proof that the debt is your Daughter's.
Perhaps someone with more knowledge of computers can direct you to them!
In the meantime, it should be worth your Daughter obtaining her credit files from Experian and/or Equifax. You can do this online by clicking onto their websites at www.experian.co.uk or www.equifax.co.uk & either choosing the free online reports or choosing the good old fashioned way of paying the statutory £2 fee to receive your report through the post (Bearing in mind the slower Christmas post).

    Hi Jillica

Can I suggest you take a look at this thread over on CAG:

You may have to register to view it.

There is some great advice on how to deal with debt collection agencies and their harrassment.

You can ask Fredrikson International for all details of the 'alleged debt' including a true copy of the original signed consumer credit account (without which they will be unable to pursue the 'alleged debt').
However, as you say, this debt is at least five years old, it may be covered by the Limitation Act, which states that, providing a debtor has made no payments towards, nor acknowledged in writing, a debt for a period of six years, then that debt is 'statute barred' and can no longer, once the debtor has stated that he/she will not be paying it as it is statute barred (the ONLY reason needed), be pursued through the courts.

    Have a look here:

    Good luck

FI Ltd seem to have bought, or are chasing the debt (imagined) that Tiscali think they have with my other half.

I've just written a snotty email to FI, added to the two phone calls I've made to them but in a nutshell, I've threatened them with legal action if they don't stop their harassment.

I'm amazed they'll chase for fifty quid but reading about them on here, seems to suggest they will.

Anyone successfully sued them and claimed costs?

It would appear that my threat of legal action against them has worked. They written back to say they will take no further action and have returned the debt to Tiscali (who surely have taken shoddy customer service to new peaks)

  • They drove me mad - one day I had 8 calls starting at 7.30am and the last one came at 10.45pm

In the end I answered the phone by simply saying 'put it in writing' and would hang up but of course that would make them ring me all the more - after a month of it I changed my phone number cos I would be in bits all day

    Good luck

Would this work for a phone contract debt - say I ask for a copy of the contract because I don't remember signing it.

I presume if they can't come up with the contract the debt is not valid.

Desperate here - any dirty tactic at my disposal I will use.

Report them to the OFT. www.oft.gov

Debt Collection Guidelines Section 2.6 Examples of Unfair Practice.......
    Subsection b,
'pressurising debtor to sell property, raise funds by further borrowing or to extend their borrowing'

Reporting to the OFT is anonymous and free. they will give you a Reference Number, quote this to FI. Then tell them that you will only allow contact IN WRITING which they have to accept and abide by.

Then ask them to send PROOF of the debt and their right to be asking for repayment, if they refuse tell them that you will be sending them a Formal Request for this if they dont reply.

....and for anyone else getting loads of phone calls,
Report them to the OFT as well
Section 2.6 a, 'contacting debtors at unreasonable times and at unreasonable intervals'

OFT dont usually deal with INDIVIDUAL complaints but numbers add up...then they can take action against the offender..
    GET COMPLAINING!!!!
