Send them the prove it letter then once you're sure that it is the Argos account you will need to make an arrangement with them to pay off whatever you can afford each month.

why? I'd send them a letter that the account has been hacked, delivery address is not where you live, you haven't received any goods, etc.
as your ex used it without your authorisation (especially after you split) I'd report him to the police
BTW, I wouldn't send anything to FI, but directly to the Argos asking them to take FI from your back and providing them with crime reference number

As OP was living at the address on the bill until recently it would be pretty difficult to convince anyone that its fraud. She could try reporting it to the police and getting a crime number but as she signed the credit agreement its going to be difficult to prove that she wasn't the one using it. If you sign for a credit/store card, order stuff to be delivered to your home address & make the payments that doesn't look like fraud. Unless you feel comfortable having your husband arrested and hopefully charged with fraud for £700 I'd say pay up and then get the CSA involved as he should most certainly be paying for your child.
  • Hi, i have also had a threatening letter stating that i owe Arrow Global Guernsey (i have no idea who these are?) £199.22. I investigated them and was directed here to find that i am not the only one receiving these letters. I followed advice and sent them a letter template asking them to provide evidence from who the orginial debt was for. They have ignored this and i have now been sent a letter stating 'Letter before Action' telling me i have to pay the full amount or else it will go to court! Plus the threat of bailiff!! Can anyone suggest what i do next...?
  • send a prove it letter
  • Mmm.... just got a first call today from them. Voicemail actually, as I have the phone off the hook until about 9pm, to stop such bottom feeders calling while I'm away and disturbing the old dear.
Great to read everyone's sterling advice and links to various letter templates. Many thanks for those, that should help me to keep them all at bay until my bankrupcy date comes up (soon). The wonderful CCCS helped me for a long time and probably stopped me going suicidal but I now need to put 'them' all behind me.
Jillica, ragebe, Danzibar, Smog, well done for not being rabbits, for seeking help (took me far too long) and for getting on here. Best of luck.
  • Hi fellow harassee’s

I recently came back off holiday to find that Fredrickson International had sent me a letter. Firstly I live in a block of 4 flats and they sent it to the wrong number and my neighbour dropped it round. The letter stated they had tried to contact me numerous times before (if they had I haven’t received any correspondence, probably sent to the wrong address but that’s their fault not mine) and that I owed around £70.00 to a company called Arrow Global Guernsey.

As I live in Guernsey I thought this was quite strange as I’ve never heard of the company. They’re not in the local directory and from what I can research online they are a debt collecting agency themselves probably a nameplate company for tax reasons. I thought it quite strange that they would sell on the debt to another company especially a UK company as Guernsey would be out of their jurisdiction.

Funnily enough I was going to call them up and pay as but it was only when I started thinking about it and things not adding up that I thought not to. After a bit of research I came across this thread.

I’ve since sent them a ‘prove it’ letter. Basically asking them to provide me with proof of the debt and any contracts I have signed. I sent this recorded delivery and have kept the delivery note .

I’ve also checked my Experian credit report and it’s in the ‘good’ area. The score has actually improved since I last viewed it 4 months ago.

When I returned home yesterday evening I saw that they had sent me a further letter ‘action before intent’ or some such wording. This was the day I sent my letter so it didn’t particularly surprise me.

As I am in Guernsey I’m not particularly worried as they can’t enforce any court proceedings against me, I just thought it showed that they obviously don’t know what they’re doing.

Do not answer your mobile phone if you do not recognise the number, never call back with the immortal line "you were calling me, my name is" and under no circumstances reply to a text fromF/I.

Be wary -- they have lots of `phone numbers. Always try to keep one step ahead of the b
    s. Always remember they are good at what they do.

They rely on peoples` curiousity re mobile phones etc. Bit of discipline and you will be ok.

P.S. I hate these people and their like with a vengeance.

    Take care.

I have a telephone that is able to allocate different ringtones to different numbers, for nuisance or sales calls, I put them all in one group and they have the same ringtone, so all the insurance companies that phone around renewal time are in there, as are any sales calls etc that I might receive. Once I receive them, i save the number and put it in the sales calls group, so when they phone, we all know that we don't bother answering that particular ringtone, plus I chose a pleasant tune so that it didn't annoy me.

  • Hi...I have had several calls from F/I saying that I owe a catalogue company and could I pay the balance. I told them I was unemployed and could only pay the minimal and agreed £10 a month. I paid the first installment but wonder if I did the right thing? This debt was passed through different debt companies before F/I took over. I'm not saying I don't owe this debt but I would prefer to pay it straight to the catalogue company, not to some debt company.

When I ordered the stuff I was in a better position to pay for them but after a few months my son left home (he had a good paying job) so my money was reduced dramatically and I could no longer afford it. I did agree to pay the catalogue company a minimal sum but even that became difficult. Should I now keep paying F/I? The catalogue company have not contacted me for over three years about this debt. I must state, this is not my son's debt but my own.:(
