Just wondering, what happens to the money we paid for the original return flight? Should this also get refunded?
No -( as stated in posts earlier ) you are entitled to EITHER a refund OR an alternative flight - not both. It’s good to hear that BA have promptly confirmed that they will pay for you the extra travel costs plus the compensation that you are entitled to .1 -

BA emailed today to say they will cover all of our extra travel costs, plus 400euro each which I am happy about.

Thanks yes that makes sense.
Filled out the form on Sunday, replied today Thursday and say it will be in my bank within 14 days.
Cant ask for any more than that.
Can the airlines cope with paying this amount of money out, or will it lead to more expensive travel in the future?0 -
UPDATE
The email from BA was this:
Dear Mr
Reference:
Thank you for your claim. We’re sorry that your BA2346 flight on 04 June 2022 to Edinburgh didn’t depart as scheduled and that you had to pay for things as a result. We know your time is precious and we’re sorry that your travel plans were affected.
We’ve reviewed your application and we’re pleased to confirm that you’re entitled to compensation under EU Regulation 261. This has been calculated as €400 per customer. Please visit ba.com to find out more about the calculation. We’re also happy to cover your expenses in full.
We’ll transfer the total amount into your bank account within 14 business days. If you didn’t provide any details, we’ll send you a cheque in the post.
We hope this goes some way to make up for the inconvenience to your journey. If we can help in any other way, please contact us. We hope we can welcome you on board again soon.

So firstly would one assume that that also includes the money we spent on the additional flights? Im hoping it does!
Its just that I have two amounts of money due to go into my account from BA
£30.10
and
£1706.70
The £30.10 is likely food expenses.
£1706.70 = Є1987 so would it be fair to say that that is the compensation for 4 paying seats (2 adults and 2 kids) + a non paying infant? 5 x Є400?
This leaves me thinking that the wording in the email and no sign of the Swiss Air ticket money that they may not be paying me that, and by 'Expenses, they just mean food?
Any help or previous experience would be appreciated thanks!

Difficult for anybody to reconcile the numbers as only you know the amounts you claimed for (especially when you mention booking 10 seats on page 1 but 4 on page 2), so if it isn't obvious to you then reply to them asking how they've calculated their figures.
However, as they've accepted your compensation claim then under current UK regulations this element should be £350 each, even though they still seem to use the pre-Brexit €400 figure, which is usually to your detriment.
On top of this, they should also be paying the full cost of the extra flights you had to buy - it's unclear if they consider this to be 'expenses' but the amounts don't seem sufficient to cover both compensation and replacement flights so further dialogue will be necessary.1 -

2 x €315
2 x €2641 x €34
= €1189 which is £10190 -
I emailed BA asking for clarity and this is their response...Surely that can't be right? :-(0

If BA can’t get you back in a reasonable time and you have found alternative with another airline you should ask BA to book the alternative flights for you .Depending on the reason it was cancelled you may be able to claim the compensation in addition.
However, having read your post, makes the most sense IMO.
Thank you.0 -
I am just a bit confused because a lot of replies on here suggested that I am entitled to the money back for the replacement flights?0
