Thanks for the info guys. Do you think they would cook better from frozen or defrosted? I can't imagine they would take long to defrost.... *thinks*

my little boy is crazy for these from the bakery, so i thought i'd have a go....got as far as buying a block of puff pastry....
Do i just cut it into strips? how thick and wide should they be?
Do i just grate some cheese on the top? our usual catherdral city?
Or should i layer the cheese and pastry?
Should i just give up? would be very grateful for any tips please.0 -

We sell these at the bakery I work at.I would think that you would cut inch wide strips, glaze with egg wash and then spribklr with grated cheese and bake for about 12 minutes on 180.HTH.0

Hi missm,
As your thread has dropped down the board I've added it to the main thread on cheese straws which has more recipes and advice that may help.

DH and DS1 (aged 2.5) made these for our breakfast over the weekend, they were lovely, very soft and cheesy!
Cheesy Snakes
150g SR flour
1/2 tsp salt
25g margarine
75g cheese, grated
1 egg + 2 tbsp milk beaten together
Handful raisins
Preheat oven to GM6/200c/400f
1. Sift flour and salt. rub in the margarine
2. Reserve a handful of cheese, stir the rest into the flour
3. Reserve one tablespoon of egg mixture, stir the rest into the flour and mix to make a dough
4. Roll out the dough to about 1cm thick
5. Cut wide strips (about 2cm) from the dough, shape into wiggly snake shapes
6. Brush the shapes with reserved egg mixture and decorate with reserved cheese. Add raisins for eyes.
7. Put shapes onto a greased baking sheet and bake for 8-10 minutes until golden
I made these this morning, although not as snakes, so left out the raisins, but they turned out really well and was very simple to make.
