Dad has a brand new E class bought in 2016, 250d.
Mercedes did a recall about the emissions and since then the car
is giving less MPG and feels not as smooth.
He was against buying diesel but after reading about it and being assured it was a greener car he bought the car.
With VW paying out, I've almost convinced him to join a group action lot.

When did the VW group action start in the UK and was this before or after the VW lot?

Have you got a Mercedes and what do you think?
I've just read the help info complied by MSE about this on this site but want your opinions.

  • You could ask a lawyer about it. Were they found to have cheated on emissions in court? What prompted the recall?

Proving that the car doesn't perform as well could be difficult. Cars do get less efficient with age. Do you have a full service history? All with Mercedes parts?

AIUI, diesel gate broke in 2015, so a purchase in 2016 would have been from a position of knowledge.

Thanks, so you are saying only those with pre 16 reg cars are getting the VW  payout in England.
I'll tell dad he was right that it is not worth pursuing and a neighbour of ours with a 17 reg VW.

Btw, the "knowledge" you refer to, we all those that wanted to buy advised by the dealers, letters to every household in the UK etc etc send by VW and Mercedes, please?

Btw, I was not aware of this "knowledge" and nor was dad as he was assured the car was a emissions friendly car.  I guess we were alone in this situation.

I've looked on various forums can't tell. Is @Grumpy_chap correct or incorrect?

Has anyone got a VW/Audi from the years in question and getting their compensation for a 2016 car or older or a 2015 car bought from 2016 onwards, please?

Thinking about what the poster said it does not sound right.

It was a huge story in 2015 - worldwide, on every news bulletin and in every newspaper.  Opportunistic lawyers will never be poor.  The way civil courts work is on the basis of the 'man on the Clapham omnibus'.  Would he have been aware?  I rather suspect he would as the coverage was massive.  The fact that there is no system to cheat outside of the US, as the EU and UK have completely different tests, is neither here nor there.

So you are saying those that bought since the news and qualifying cars won't be included in the payouts?

It would be a risk.  Down to you whether you wish to take it.  Remember lawyers are like casinos, the house never loses.

Thank you for coming back. To be clear, are you saying like the other poster that those that bought after the news in 2105 won't get a penny?

Any VW/Adui owners/lease/etc here that have found out they will be getting to almost 3k and got your car after the news broke? I find it hard not to laugh as the suggestions that people should have been aware just because it was on the news and the carmakers were denying it as they are now.

For the  VW claim you had to have bought or leased the car before 1 January 2016.

Despite all  claims in the media , the average payout is £2000 less commission.

Thanks. Please direct me to a link that confirms that.

As Mercedes and the others were not in the news, does it apply to them?

    Thanks so much.
