Hello again to all, I'm having another go at keeping track of my spends this month because I completely lost the plot in May, so onwards and upwards we go.
Please put me down for £120 for the calendar month please @elsiepac (hoping you feel better soon) which is to cover food for me as well as household essentials and basic toiletries too. The baking budget remains at £5 per week, thanks.
Two NSDs yesterday and today which I'm pleased with and I'm planning to see how far I can get before setting foot in the shops which is my way of avoiding the temptation to spend. Good luck to all, goldfinches.7 -
No money spent this month so far, used up some bendy veggies and red lentils in a soup I made yesterday, so there's still enough for tomorrow, I still have crusty bread in the freezer so will get a couple of slices out to have with it and not sure yet what I will have for tea, it's a case of fridge diving until it's gone, so some different/strange meals will be made I think

First spend of the month: £13.17/£120
Cycled to Alds so saved on bus or train fare. Bought one box of washing powder (to last a few months), 4 large bars of dark chocolate (for porridge and snacks), a bag of pasta, a 1kg bag of porridge oats and some flaked almonds.

Spends so far this month. 85p on a bag of liquorice allotted for OH, and £2.04 on two bottles of milk. DD3 brought both of these home from work with her. She, DD3, is moving out at the end of this month. She'll be moving to Yorkshire to live with one of her brothers. There are so few job opportunities here for her, South West Wales. The jobs she had found are a long distance, meaning huge fuel costs and long days, so she's spreading her wings. We will lose her discount from Farm foods and have to start freezing milk or shopping more often. Freezing it is then! Total for year now is £1160.79/£2640. Hugs to all, mumtoomany.xxFrugal Living Challenge 2025.9

Bought a huge bag of branded dishwasher tablets for £5 from a market stall this morning. These work out loads cheaper than the supermarket own brand ones I usually buy
Now spent £68.94 / £230.

I've cancelled the veg box for good - partly cost, and partly because it just didn't fit now I'm back in the office two days a week. If it was consistently delivered at 6.30 in the morning I could get up early and run down and get it before work, and if it was consistently delivered at 11 I could cancel it when I need to be in the office on Friday - but it not being consistent means I'm doing both those things. Too much effort for something meant to be a convenience.
I'll need to make sure I keep buying plenty of varied veg though as it did get me eating better.
I've already spent £30.40 this month: an 88p pain au choc for breakfast on Wednesday in the office (22p off because I have a Wrose card) £4.70 on a glass of wine in the pub, £7.50 on fancy tea I can drink without milk (you can tell it's the start of the month!), and £17.32 on strawberries, cream, bread, camembert, grana padano (Italian hard cheese not as expensive as parmesan), jars of pesto, tinned tomatoes, yellow pepper, wholemeal pasta, tea, potatoes and tinned sardines and mackerel.

Good Afternoon GC'rs - Happy Friday!
I have an 89p spend to own up to! Bought some perfectly imperfect tatties from MrS on the way home. A couple will be baked to accompany our YS'd 70p 'deluxe' vegetable lasagne for tea. The rest will be used as and when.
Day out today - we went to a relatively local, small-scale, volunteer-led attraction that floated LG's boat and which was their idea. LG enjoyed every moment (I got it on video!! 🤣), and whilst the admittance cost was a little gasp-worthy, it was a lovely family time, and we ate a HM picnic lunch in an almost deserted park, with blue butterflies, thrushes and bumblebees for accompaniment. I took the 2 remaining slices of crustless quiche for DH and I (knew LG wouldn't be interested), and we both agreed that the taste was even better after an overnight in the fridge. Isn't it weird how that happens? Car park charges were waived because of the bank holiday, which meant LG could have an ice-cream at the venue. A wonderful time making memories. All spends on the day out were from the holiday budget.
