Online banking tends to frequently log out sessions. App still does not offer spend notifications.
Yes - even when you're looking at the pages, scrolling up and down... you can be working through the list of pay transactions.. and suddenly your transported to the top of the page to see if you want to stay logged in - Yes... but now you've lost your place...

Why not a box out/ pop up - click to stay logged in and you're still looking where you were on the page?

I say the app has the slowest startup time, and I should know I have followed a few

It actually times out and disconnects you in the middle of a live ”chat”

It's certainly quite slow, but not the slowest - for me the Halifax app is the most laborious and seems to take ages to log in and display.
The Starling Bank app invites login immediately and takes literally one second to show my account after presenting my fingerprint, and always has done, so I know that such speed should be possible.

Halifax takes about 5.5 seconds to display the account. Santander is 8 (auth via face id on both).

Seriously, were now determining how good or bad an app is on how many seconds it saves us by opening faster?
What exactly where you planning on doing with those extra seconds?

Yes, when I want a quick look at what is going on with my account, during a spare moment or for whatever reason, I do want it to be quick. Just as when I check the weather or the news, the apps open immediately.

Perhaps you should raise a formal complaint with Santander for having wasted x seconds of your life waiting for their app to load?

They got a fabulous Regular Saver, pay decent cashback on DDs, and there's good reason for using other places to make your money grow.

I don't even know what that means, the news and weather are unpredictable, what's going on in your account is entirely predictable as you instructed them to do it.
