Where to holiday in Majorca

Yes Pollensa is lovely. it's where i'm going if I ever get my flight tickets sorted out! But it's very quiet and you may prefer Santa Ponsa. It's also much nearer to Palma so you can get the local bus quite easily and spend a good day out taking in all the sights from the Cathedral to the Castle. It also has lots of other attractions, good shopping, fantastic bars and restuarants. .. . All good stuff. I lurve it!Treat everyday as your last one on earth! and one day you will be right.0

By far the best place to stay is the capital Palma (not to be confused with Palmanova). Very classy and romantic. It's just lovely to walk along the front at night and check out all the millionaires boats, and have a cool drink in one of the dozens of trendy bars. There's a couple of huge clubs on the front too but they are much classier than others on the island.
The old town of Palma is stunning, with nice shops. A must see is the cathedral which is very spooky.
Best street for restaurants is called San Juan - which is lovely and you'll be spoilt for choice - very reasonable prices too.
Best nearby beach is at Cala Mayor about 1.5 miles (easily walkable) to the south-east of Palma, and it has a good cafe on the beach.
Everything is within walking distance and you won't need a car.
Also take the old train from Palma to Soller for a day trip. I saw it the other day voted in the top 10 of the world's best train rides- and it is - all for only 2.7 E.
We're the same age as you, and we're going back again this year.0 -
researcher wrote:Hi,
I was lucky enough to go to Mallorca for a 6 month research project (inspecting hotels) and ended up staying 6 years. My advice would be:
Palma Nova is not as bad as it sounds, but I still wouldn't bother. Santa Ponsa is only ok. West coast Deya/Soller very lovely but expensive - this is where the 'jet set' go or have holiday homes. Good east Coast resorts include the very nice and slightly upmarket Cala d'Or, I also relly like Porto Colom. In the North Purto Pollensa is definately the superior resort, and I'd avoid Alcudia too.
Me - I love Palma - a fabulous City, great restaurants and nightlife, easy access to beaches and great days out. Do consider it too.

I agree about Palma, I'd love to live there. Because it isn't a 'package holiday resort' most people never see it, but it's the best place.0 -
Sa'Coma for me.
stayed for two weeks July 04, excellent resort.
lovely beach, several restaurants and a really relaxed feel to it.
I'm currently in the process of looking for a late minute deal back there.
Magaluf it def aint.
Only drawback is that its about 1hour drive to Palma, and i agree with previous comments Palma is a wonderful place.
However if you are looking for relaxation, and a good clean resort then Sa'Coma is the one.No reliance should be placed on the above.0 -

But there are also some beautiful, small family run hotels - good value for money in what is, for me, the most beautiful part of Majorca. Very relaxed, tasteful, plenty to see & do.
Soller would be a good base.Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0 -
Really pleased to read all the positive posts about Cala D'Or, going there for the first time with my family in August, and am looking forward to it even more now.
Heard lots of good things about the Pirates trip - has anyone been? Heard its very expensive but great fun! Is it worth booking?Only 5% of those who can give blood, actually do!

Pirates is fantastic and I would recommend it.
It's a mixture of acting, gymnastics, dancing, trampolining, acrobatics and pantomime all rolled into one. The performers are well trained and some of the things they do are amazing. It manages to keep both children and adults entertained all the way through.
The food is average - filling but nothing special. Watch how much "Pirates Punch" you drink as it's lethal - lol. The punch and fizzy pop is unlimited.
Well worth the money to see IMO, and I would certainly go again if I was on the island. Here I go again on my own....0 -
