We went to Sa Coma a couple of years ago - nice beach - nice resort - lots of bars but not manic like lots of other places. To infinity and beyond!0

Went last year looking for the same. The west coast was great, Cala D'or, Porto Cristo.
You still get places showing Corrie though...0 -
north too is nice...porto pollensa is more sedate town, alcudia is busier but not to the same extent as magaluf etc and caters more for young families than the 18-30's.x x x0

I really enjoyed Puerto Pollenca as it was a proper Spanish town with a beautiful sandy beach and a little sandy island to visit nearby. I'd love to go back.0

Don't go to Alcudia , its an awful place.. Very poorly laid out . No promenade behind the beach meaning walks along very busy roads. No proper centre. Oh and its built in the middle of a swamp meaning lots of mosquitos and so-called canals that look like open sewers..
Palma nova is surprisingly nice with lots of bars, but quieter than neighbouring Magalluf. I actually rated it as one of the best places i have been to.. You can walk to the torrenova headland ( between magalluf and palma-nova) and this is where the lively nightlife is, but there are lots of more sedate bars. I went with a 4 yr old and we had a great time. way better than the supposedly family-oriented Alcudia..
Also been to Santa Ponsa which is ok, but palma nova is nicer .. And went to Arenal years ago, but i would aviod this place now unless you like drunken Germans..0 -
Alcudia was ok, but I didn't like it that much. Too many British bars and restaurants, but the beach was nice. We were at the end with the lakes and a sort of canal feature through the streets full of stagnant water, so there were millions of mozzies! The old town of Alcudia was nice. We enjoyed walking round there.
I didn't like Callas de Mallorca. That was a purpose built tourist resort and to British/German, and not enough traditional Spanish stuff.
My recommendation would be Cala D'Or. It's a lovely resort. Fairly quiet and most of the bars and restaurants are contained in one area in the middle. We didn't see any all night party raves that blare music out all night. The beaches are lovely, and the marina is fabulous with 'serious money' yachts in. My Mam and me were eyeing up properties there in case we won the lotteryHere I go again on my own....0 -
santa ponsa. it's not too quiet and it's not too lively, and it's got a great atmosphere0

me and my hubby had our honeymoon sept 03 in palma nova its a great place to stay, plenty to do lots of nice bars and restaurants. its within walking distance to magaluf but while we were there it was nothing like it shows on telly maybe out of season though. We got the bus to palma a couple of times lovely city didnt cost very much. palma nova is a place for any age great allround resort would def go again and take the kids this time.0

If you want traditional Spanish, try Puerto de Soller. Nice old fashioned place.
Cala D'Or: Bit pricey but has an upmarket feel
Calas De Mallorca: Run down. Purpose built, nice cliff top walks, a few good eateries including at least one(!) mallorcan one. Car essential. Small beaches are very busy. Some hotels in very poor condition. This is Airtours territory not Thomsons. Stayed there in 2003 but only because we paid £99 each for a week in June on an Airtours auction (remember them???)
Sa Coma/Cala Millor etc: off there this year to a Thomson Superfamily place with her indoors (37) and my kids (7, 10). Had more recommendations for this place than others. Some people I know go there every year!
Magalluf: not as bad as it used to be, but would only visit, not stay there.
Pollensa is getting quite big now.
Alcudia is closer to Blackpool than Magalluf is now.
As a rule, north and north east coast are my choice for holidays, apart from Alcudia.
West coast has superb scenery and bottom clinching hairpin bends on edge of cliff roads!
North west corner past Pollensa has some of the best views in Europe in my opinion.
South coast = Blackpool.
Palma is great for a day trip or two.
The middle of the island has some nice villages/towns and monasteries with great views.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0
