  • I use bicarbonate of soda (baking soda) to clean the stains from tea from mugs, cups, spoons, and my teeth. Works really fast and does a great job. Just mix with a little water.

Years ago DD1 went on a school trip to Paris and was amazed that her hotel took used teabags and clipped them to a line to dry and be reused!
Mr Dusty only drinks Twinings Breakfast tea,a mere £4.50 per 100 bags, but he likes very weak tea,so surreptitiously I use one bag 3 times in a day,and he doesnt notice the reuse because of lots of milk and sugar :D.
    I only drink lemon tea

I'll admit it. I like my tea pretty weak.

It seems terribly wasteful to yank the tea bags out of the cup before they have really brewed much. I then throw them away, as I'm not MSE enough to reuse them.

Is there anywhere that does tea bags with say half the normal amount of tea in them, please?

I absolutely love this thread 😁

Question is: Do you want to buy smaller T Bags to save money or to save Tea Leaves? If perchance there is a company out there that makes small T bags, I can guarantee you they will be more expensive than normal T bags.
I recently bought a small whisk in John Lewis that was more expensive than the large whisk next to it on the shelf.

As other posts have suggested, use loose leaf tea, I prefer Assam, very English Breakfast Tea like flavours.

Personally I like Yorkshire T Bags but recently bought some Waitrose own brand T bags 80 for £1.10 as opposed to £2.50 for 80 Yorkshire T Bags, really nice.

Obviously bulk buys work out cheaper.

Someone mentioned Soda Crystals for cleaning cups, 1 Steradent is also excellent.

@JJC1956 is the steradent just placed in the mug with cold water and then left overnight?

Make a paste, and rub it round.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

If I am only cleaning 1 or 2 cups, I put 1 Steradent tablet in a cup and half fill with hot water, when it has stopped bubbling up, I top up cups to the brim. About an Hour or 2 is fine, I don’t usually use cold water but why not give it a try.
If I am cleaning a pile of cups, I put them all in a bowl and put in about half a pack of Steradent.
Steradent works great with China/Porecelain cups/mugs.

I clean my mug with 1/2 a teaspoon of washing powder and boiling water. Let it stand for 5 minutes and it wipes clean. I then pour it into a second mug and if I'm quick a third. (I use the dregs from the boiled kettle - proper MSE)
