HELP PLEASE ----BROADBAND SIM ONLY ----

Options
Hello everyone  ---   some time ago I asked on this forum for info re: INTERNET ONLY SIM TO USE IN UK --- I got couple of replies suggesting ASDA PAYG --- I followed the advise, got ASDA PAYG SIM, topped it up with £5 (to check first how it works) stick the device into my laptop, connected to Internet - and the whole credit (£5) was gone in less than 20 minutes!!! Is this how it suppose to work??? I am still in shock over this "surprise" - I come to UK on frequent visits from continent - where I use SIM designed for Internet only - and equivalent of £5 - (fiver!!!) covers 3-4 months (depending on country) UNLIMITED access to Internet. I say it again £5 covers 3-4 months UNLIMITED access. Did I go wrong with this ASDA PAYG SIM - or is there other explanation to what I experienced??? I am now forced to use here public facilities what is not convenient nor safe most of the time...... any comments will be greatly appreciated.... many thanks in advance

    Welcome back to the forum.
Your previous thread is here, where you were asked various questions around your likely use but didn't reply:

In that thread you were advised that ASDA mobile PAYG data was 4p/MB, so your £5 will have bought you 125MB of data.
If you are looking to get unlimited mobile data in the UK for £5 every 3 months I'm afraid you're out of luck. (Which provider is this with?)
Unlimited mobile data is available in the UK but it starts from £16/month on a 12-month contract:
    https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/mobiles/cheap-sim-only-contracts/#unlimited
If you don't need unlimited data, there are other deals on that page with smaller monthly allowances and some are 30-day contracts rather than 12-month.

  • I did THANK all those who replied to my original message - and thank you for getting back to me now.... from what you say
I must conclude that in UK service being Internet access only SIM is not available. As I said - such service is a routine over the channel - I top up Internet only SIM every 4 months with equivalent of £5 and get access 24/7 on my laptop. That's all there is to it.... In any case.... charging £5 for use of Internet for less than 20 minutes (ASDA PAYG SIM) is an outrage. Many thanks.
  • As @QrizB says, if you had given some idea of your data requirements (or at least what you were using your device for) then the recommendations may well have been different.

Could you please let us have the details of your generous continental internet provider? Be very useful for future trips.

My record is £20+ quids-worth of GiffGaff PAYG (10p/MB) in less than 5 minutes, a couple of internet speed tests on my shiny new 5G phone. It was very fast.

You might want to provide direct quotation who were suggesting you that ?
Also have you ever seen anywhere in the world, a SIMcard is giving you UNLIMITED access to mobile internet to be used for 3-4 months for just £5 ? Let alone if you also need it for roaming (?).
I must conclude that in UK service being Internet access only SIM is not available.
Against who said that, any quotation
In your previous thread you have been suggested one of the alternative.

Smarty sim £10 for 30GB bundle for 30 days.
EE Preload data sim 120GB, valid for 1 year, £50 @ Argos or amazon
Also if you search on eBay there are tons of data only Simcard.
Common sense is one of the most valuable way of making decision, use it.
