I doubt it's this. The problem happens at idle, ie low fuel demand. If the fuel filter were blocked, the car would possibly show symptoms at high demand (ie high speed/open throttle) not at idle.

As above, try cleaning the idle control valve. The tickover dropped to 5-600rpm and occasionally stalled on my petrol Volvo, cleaning the icv fixed it.
  • It's possibly a case of crap in the air box, how often do you do this?
How often does the OP crap in the airbox ?????!!!!!!  What kind of a question is that ?!

It's a little joke that's flew at great height over your head.

Right, firstly let me say I am not a mechanic and I know b****r all about fixing cars but I had a similar sounding problem a number of years ago and it turned out to be the idle air control valve needed cleaning.  This may or may not be of use to you!

    Should be the right answer

You can try to clean it, or just fit a new one. The exact part and where it is differs on the different model years & engines.
