Refused Travel with 9 Year Old Passport and 6 Months Left After Return

Options
I was refused boarding a plane to Greece on Tuesday, they said passport is over 10 years (it’s not, it’s 9 years, 10 in September) owing to Brexit rules. Also my research including this site said 3 months validity on passport from return, mine has 6. Who would I make the complaint to? I don’t hold out hope that Ryanair/Swissport will care! Any advice gratefully received, thank you.

Your first step would be to complain to the airline setting out why you were incorrectly denied boarding.

Are you sure you were incorrectly denied boarding? When was your passport issued? What did the airline say? If your passport was issued in September 2012 how did they arrive at it being 10 years old now?

As above, what was your passport's date of issue, your date of travel out and your planned date of travel back

Complaints go to the airline... most ground crew are third parties but the airline remain responsible.

It was all a bit of a shock at the time, it was issued Sep 2012, I’m still confused. They said something about June 2012 (that’s 6 months before my passport start date) and something about it being to do with Brexit but to the best of my Google abilities I can’t find anything about this. So easy to look back and think, why didn’t I say this/that but yes they are emplyed by the handler, they don’t care and just do their job and they have all the power. Thank you, I have started a complaint with Ryanair (yes wish me luck with that, stop laughing haha!!)

I can’t edit my post but clearly June > Sept is 4 not 6 months.  Now I know even less what they were on about.🤔

From what you have said you are due refund and compensation from Ryanair- the process for claiming (e-Mail) is discussed here :

Update as promised:  So after much chasing, Ryanair replied that I am entitled to nothing:

    Quoted:
If passengers are using a British passport to travel into a Schengen/EU member country (excluding Ireland), as of 1 January 2021, they must make sure that their passport:

    • is valid for at least three months from the date you will leave the Schengen/EU member country, unless you have a Schengen-issued residence permit or long-term visa
    • is issued within the previous 10 years upon the date of arrival into the Schengen/EU member country,
I'm awful at maths and can't work out if my passport was Sep 2012 - Nov 2022 how I fit in with the above, I'm utterly confused.

I went all over the terms and conditions on the Ryanair website today and can't find anything about this. And, I didn't book with Ryanair, it was booked via Loveholidays, and so was I really supposed to know about this 1 Jan 2021 thing? I've logged a complaint with the ADR people but I don't have much hope at this point. What I do have is a new passport, a decision never to fly Ryanair again and a horrendous feeling inside but there we go. I hope everyone is well.

I fail to see how your passport doesn’t meet the rules

if it was issued sep 12 then it was issued within last 10 years and it also had 3 months to run ( till sep 22) in may

i don’t understand why Ryanair are saying otherwise
