If your washer and dishwasher have eco settings, try and use those, although they do tend to take around 3 hours. Can you not turn off the anti-crease thing that makes the tumble dryer keep starting up again? Also wash at 40C, even 30C if possible.

We had a good jiggle around with what's plugged in near the tv. all on an 4 way adapter hidden behind the sideboard and not possible to switch off at socket. We've ditched the sound system totally, which was using a surprising amount of electricity and now the adapter is fixed to the wall where we can reach it. Can fully turn off tv and set top box when not in use. Worked out that's gonna save us about #75 a year.

Does the anti-crease facility turn the heating on again?  On my dryer it just turns the drum a few times for a few moments, so the consumption is negligible.

No, no heat. My only concern is if it's doing that all night but that's rare so yes negligible agree

You've provided estimates but not actuals so it could be much worse or better than you think👍

Just to add to my earlier post....
We switched off a small upright freezer around 10 days ago to defrost it, it's fairly new but not the type that auto defrosts like the our combined fridge/freezer does. So with it defrosted we were waiting to make a trip to the supermarket to do a big shop as we are out of most supplies including meat. Don't think we'll bother now, that freezer is costly to run. Just taken our normal readings for the week and that freezer seems to be consuming nearly a quarter of our weekly electricity would you believe.
I've always suspected this as even when full it was on (running) a good deal than I thought it should be.

Anyways we pass a number of supermarkets when out and about, it's no big deal for us to buy provisions as and when needed including meat and meals for the freezer etc and we've made a little more room in the other freezer too. So we're changing the way we shop, it's not cost effective to buy those what appear to be bargains, take them home and bang them in the freezer but at what cost to keep for a few weeks in there?

Hi again guys. The best fixed tarriff eon next are offering me is the

    Next Online v14

    Monthly cost

    £278.37

    Annual cost £3,340.49

According to my online account I am currently on a variable tarrif paying £2,539.61 a year:

    Electricity usage4,683kWh
    Electricity unit rate28.29p per kWh
    Electricity standing charge48.15p per day
    Gas usage12,625kWh
    Gas unit rate7.44p per kWh
    Gas standing charge27.22p per day

I simply have no idea what my actualy usage is and not a clue how i go about finding that out! But should I be swapping to the fixed given the big price hikes predicted later in the year?? Or if not possible to tell from the above, how do I go about calculating?

That's a lot of electricity. 62% more than the average. Where does it all go and can you use less?

Thier quote for Next Online V14 is 31% more than you are currently paying. That's a much smaller increase than the 40%+ that's predicted for October, and MSE's article includes V14 in the list of tariffs they think you should seriously consider.

    It's very easy.
For electricity, find two meter readings 12 months apart and subtract the older reading from the newer one.  They must both be actual meter readings (yourself, meter reader or smart), not estimates.  Ignore any figures or dials in red and everything after the decimal point.  You can also check the total cost by multiplying the number of kWh by 28.29p and adding 365 times the daily charge of 48.15p.
For gas, find two meter readings 12 months apart and subtract the older reading from the newer one.  They must both be actual meter readings (yourself, meter reader or smart), not estimates.  Ignore any figures or dials in red and everything after the decimal point.  However, this will be a volume, so you then have to convert it to kWh.  If you have an imperial meter (cubic feet, ft3), multiply by 31.5.  If you have a metric meter (cubic metres, m3), multiply by 11.15.  (These calculations ignore variations in the Calorific Value, but the result will be close enough.)  You can also check the total cost by multiplying the number of kWh by 7.44p and adding 365 times the daily charge of 27.22p.
