Eon Next am I paying way too much?

I got switched from Igloo to Eon Next. My bill was immediately increased from £80p/m for combined gas and elec. to £180. That equates to £2160 annually. My most recent bill says my estimate is closer to £2500. We're a 2 adults one child 3 bedroom household. Tarriff is:
Electricity

Next Flex

28.29 p/kWh 48.15 p/day

(All rates inc. VAT)

Gas

Next Flex

7.44 p/kWh 27.22 p/day

(All rates inc. VAT)

Can anyone tell me what a current average annual bill is after the price hikes and are we paying way over the odds, as it seems to me? I have seen Martin's advice that it isn't worth switching currently with price caps etc...

The tariff you have quoted is a capped variable rate, the same as many people on this forum are paying.
The national average for a dual-fuel customer paying by DD on that tariff is £1971 pa.
Do you know your typical annual use, in kWh, for each of gas and electricity? This should be shown on your bill as your estimated annual consumption or EAC.
It's quite possible that you are using more than the average amount of energy and that this is causing your bills to be higher than average.

Electricity Estimated Annual Usage 4569.5 kWh
Gas Estimated Annual Usage* 12298 kWh

    Your estimated annual cost
    £1468.42 a year for electricity
    £1039.09 a year for gas

(For some reason my last two bills haven't included gas estimates even though I've sent readings, so got the gas from a March bill)

Estimated use is all well and good but do you know the energy you use in a year in kWh?

That's the important thing knowing what you use then you can work out exactly what you should be paying each month.

Perhaps it's unwise thinking of I paid this amount then, and pay that amount now, without useage amounts,or without accurate consumption information.
I for instance am also an Eon Next transfer from Symbio Energy and for virtually identical usage amounts my bill/DD amount has risen by 259%,using your figures it's a rise of 225% so sounds fairly ballpark right for the moment and forseeable future.
Unlikely to be worthwhile moving from Next Flex to another SVR,or the majority of fixes from any alternative supplier either, unless you've a particular use case which you can crunch numbers to see if it's to your advantage,or not.

Ofgem is using 2900KWh electricity and 12000KWh gas to describe their average user on which the monetary increase is based that they publish.

So assuming the estimates are correct you would be an average user of gas, but have a high electricity usage.

You are currently 25% over the average user Ofgem uses for its calculations to answer your question.

But remember there are lots of things to consider, for example how old is house, what type of house do you have or what is the insulation for heating. For electricity it is questions like do you have any expensive hobbies like hot tub, fish tanks or garden pump, so where could you save electricty.

    OK, thanks for the info.
The "average" household, spending £1971 per year, uses 12000kWh of gas and 2900kWh of electricity every yeasr. E.ON Next think you're a slightly-above-average gas user but a much higher electricity user, which is why your annual estimate is coming in at £2500-ish.
As Mstty says you should check their estimates against your own readings, but at face value it seems like you're not being overcharged at £180/month; you might even be paying slightly too little, and £210/month could be closer to the mark.

Try saving electric and gas by turning everything in standby mode off at the wall socket, only three appliances need to be on 24/7 and they are the fridge, freezer and router. Also lower the temperatures on the boiler to 50 degrees for water and 55 degrees for heating and lower the temperature on the thermostat to 18 degrees. Lowering the temperature will mean the heating takes longer to get up to temperature but once there it will stay there. If you think lowering the heating from say 23 degrees to 18 degrees will be too much in one go then reduce it by 1 degree per week until you start to feel very slightly cold then adjust by 0.5 degrees if you can on the thermostat.

Someone please tell me what money is

Thanks for the tips. We've already stopped using the heating since February but its elec thats the problem. I've asked eon next for an ihd screen to try and monitor usage (whether theyll agree to send one is another matter).

Just have a look at what is plugged in, any form of heating with leccy will be expensive, do you heat water with leccy?, shower?

Only electric shower, rest is gas for water/ heating. Does the shower use elec when isolator is left on?? (the switch is hard to reach so bit of a pain turning that off and on all the time). My suspicion is the tumble dryer which the missus likes to use for fun, and, it has a stupid ant-crumple setting that spins the drum every 15 minutes when its finished. Do tv's use a lot on standby? I also work from home so pc's are on almost constantly.
