I like the Jim Kelly novels too, Dusty but having grown up near Ely I don't recognise a lot of the places he describes. Have you read his series set in wartime Cambridge?
Probably he did some deliberate obscuring of real settings,as authors often do.
Our library only had the Philip Dryden series, long ago.  I do have two of the  Shaw and Valentine books,Death's Door and Death Toll, dont know what they are like.
I want to reread my Lyndon Stacey books. Wish she had written more about the animal painter Gideon Blake, and the series abou t an ex-policeman and his german shepherd dog. I enjoy them because they are in the !!!!!! Francis mode, moral heroes with compassion and integrity. Out of fashion in these days of moral ambiguity, but I WANT to fully identify with heroes! :)
Judith Cutler is another of my old favorite authors,I must have read 25-30 of her books.
Just finished an enjoyable Canadian mystery,a cozy really for my Canada challenge, Gail Bowen's [The Wandering Souls Murders] Only one book left for that challenge a late victorian children novel,Seven Little Australians, regarded by Australians as their Little Women.

Morning all. Another beautiful day. We on the northeast coast always have strong winds, that helped to keep the temps down a bit,19 C is good enough for me.At 8 am it was already 25 C in Spain,38C forecasted by midday, and 40C everyday this week.EEK.
+ health. So whats on the smorgasbord today. Only my back. Mr D came rushing upstairs on hearing me yelling as I limped from the bathroom after all the bending over to wash my hair. If you plod through the pain and keep moving it goes away. Presumably you stop pressing on the nerve after trial and error?Looking up treatment, they were discussing tramadol. Aarrgghh!! No thanks. That stuff made me lose almost a day because of spacing me out. I HATE not having a clear mind. That is why the brain fog, depression, difficulty focusing etc upset me much more than mundane old physical pain.Been there, done that, own the T-shirt.
At least I got a straight 6 hours sleep last night,
+ so whats on the agenda today. Not a lot. Is there ever. :)
-Need to hoover sitting room, its in a shocking state.Probably going to have lots of visitors today. At least watching the antics of the twins (2 yrs old in September) is amusing, stops me yawning so much. I yawn all the time! B12 jab on Monday,I am like a junkie needing my fix.
-research exercises for back pain. Its much worse than I get with periodic sciatica attacks
-do my asd@ online groceries list.Am trying to keep it below £60 a week

Frugal Fortnight#4 was quite a good one. No takeaways.8 no spend days. Mr Dusty has been buying his own expensive fruit. A family friend gave me a whole salmon side which made 4 good sized sections,2 to 3 meals per section for Mr Dusty, and saving £3.50 each section for me. Cool.So £90 left in the HBB.I have an envelope where I store all the HBB leftovers, and when I have £100 in twenties or tenners I allocate it to one of my savings envelopes. The £100 accumulated in twenties will  go to my Household pot. I have a host of things I need, starting with a tabletop mini oven..My oven's seals have given up the ghost, masses of heat escapes while cooking, and a tripling of fuel prices makes that a no-no. Also bending down to get things out of the oven is a bit difficult due to bad knees, dodgy back and arthritic hands..I need to start looking at ovens! :)
