I doubt this rule will last more than another year or two.
    I wouldn't bet on that.
Some years back the Balearic authorities clamped down on bars and night clubs which were too noisy - by setting midnight as the time by which they had to reduce the volume levels.
That resulted in establishments having double glazed folding doors which were closed as the time approached.
I'd be very surprised if that law has been repealed.
If the silly scoop it up boozing culture persists around the targetted troublespots, I don't see any change

    That’s very different.

There is nothing similar these affected hotels can do to accommodate their main customer base and make them feel they are not now being short changed so they will just go to other areas where the rules don’t exist.

Given the many turned up noses on this thread regarding “Brits abroad” holidays I doubt the lack of custom is going to be made up for by a different customer base starting to holiday in these areas.

The point is that the local government will not relax this legislation unless there is a marked improvement in the behaviour of the let's get legless brigade.
If they move to other locations to avoid the restrictions then the same will happen there in any new areas.
It's not only a few AI hotels that are targetted - it's a widespread Happy Hour, BOGOF and Booze Cruise deals that are affected.
There are many Brits who opt for AI hotels but are not into the big swally culture - there may well be a market for them if these measures are successful.

That’s an awfully principled view of the world but not a very realistic one.

When the main industry in these areas and supplier of jobs is negatively affected in the current economic climate due to local government policy we’ll see how long the local governments principles last.

There will be a marked improvement because there will be a drop in numbers in these areas and in a year or two they will say it’s been a big success and swiftly return to the status quo.

A few years ago the Balearic government introduced a locally collected tourist tax. I can recall at the time the beating of chests and calls that tourist would boycott the islands. That never happened either.

I remember a year or two ago when they had a number of rules for holidaying in the Balearics that only lasted a year or so.

    That did happen.

Maybe they will look at it and say that all inclusive brings very lttle to the local economy. A bit like cruise boats very little local spend, add in food and drink sorced in bulk possibly/ probably from elsewhere, employees brought in on minimum wage possibly / probably from outside the island and you have a concept that might not be missed at all.
