    Your own router is invaluable in a situation like this.  Next time you move provider you just change the login details in the router and everything remains as it was.

    ISPs would prefer you use something they send you (sometimes these are total pieces of junk though) - Last time I was with TalkTalk they insisted on sending me a router even though I had my own.  That was six years ago. Its still in the box.  Plusnet also insisted on sending me a Hub 2 when I renewed my deal.  Which is also still in the box and that's where its going to stay.
