Lost router and broadband switching provider tomorrow

Options
I am due to switch broadband provider to TalkTalk tomorrow. Yodel has lost the router that was due to be delivered last week. They said to allow 48 hours for them to find it. I contacted TalkTalk and they said that either I need to work it out with Yodel, or they will send me a new router AFTER the activation date.

I am working from home tomorrow and need internet access. Also, I am travelling for a week from Wednesday and relying on the internet to remain on during this time for CCTV, alarm and smart devices.

Is there anything I can do to insist that TalkTalk ship out a new router today? Or something I can do technically to my existing Shell Broadband router to have it work once I have switched to TalkTalk tomorrow?

You can’t insist, but you can either reset your current router to connect to TalkTalk, or buy a generic one from Dixons or the like.

If you need this for work purposes as opposed to home/domestic you need to get in touch with talk talk business here:

Talk Talk business may be able to send a router out on same day express delivery, the other option is to use a mobile broadband device , which you could pick up today from a shop and have it running, putting the cost of it down to expenses payable by your employer

It is a domestic account as I only WFH occasionally.

You could get a wireless broadband SIM to tide you over temporarily.

It should be TT who are chasing their courier, not you. But they probably won't. You can ask TT to compensate you for the days for which you have no service.

That will be the obvious way to go, you should be able to pick one up today and have it running in minutes .
You should also inform your employer that you only have a home domestic broadband account that doesnt support business/commercial use and as such your main internet will be down - stick the mobile sim/mifi down on expenses

I was on a chat for a long time with TalkTalk and got nowhere.

To be honest, I am not too concerned about WFH tomorrow as I can tether on my mobile for the day or go to a friend's house to work. My main concern is that the house will be empty for nearly a week from Wednesday and I will have no internet to access security cameras and smart devices remotely.

TalkTalk should be able to tell you your DSL login details, and you might be able to enter these into your Shell router to give you asccess to TalkTalk broadband.
(I used to use a generic ADSL router and did this every time I switched; since upgrading to FTTC I've not yet bought a new router so am using the ISP-supplied one.)

Then why not buy a better rouer than TalkTalk would be sending you, set it up, and go away without needing to worry?

There’s nothing particularly bad about the free ones that the service providers give you, but you can get much better for not much money.

I doubt TalkTalk have a script for that and their Customer Service staff rarely know enough to go off of those scripts. OP I wish you good luck in all of your dealings with TalkTalk and if you can get the DSL authentication details then you should be able to do as suggested provided you can change those settings on your existing modem.
