I fly 0620 Tuesday and just had a text from Easyjet saying I need a FFP2 mask to fly and that surgical or cloth masks are not acceptable. V poor giving short notice on a bank holiday weekend.
They have destination-specific Covid guidance on their website and a clear mask policy that also explains this, did they not direct you to check all this sort of stuff when booking?

    https://www.easyjet.com/en/help/covid-19-faqs/mask-guidelines

    Mask Guidelines

Do I need to wear a mask?

Many of the countries we fly to still require that masks are worn, and you may need one at the airport, at the gate and during your flight. Masks are only optional on a small number of our routes, as shown below, but we'll continue to review and update this list when destination requirements change.

All flights to, from and within – Italy, Austria and Germany

All passengers aged 6 and over are required to wear a FFP2 when they fly.

    [...]

As it's a national rule rather than an EasyJet one, it's also highlighted in the FCO travel guidance at https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/italy/entry-requirements#entry-rules-in-response-to-coronavirus-covid-19
All passengers entering Italy by plane, ferry, train or coach must wear an FFP2 mask in order to enter the country.

I didn't book the flight, the travel company i'm going with did but never flagged that as issue
Because as the traveller it’s your job to check the requirements.
It’s an Italy-specific rule, not imposed by EasyJet.
A friend who recently flew to Germany and back with BA said that only a few passengers had masks on. It wasn't a requirement/enforced on the flight.

Which is exactly why it is so important to check as different countries and different airlines may have different rules.
