House withdrawn from market but still listed as sold

After months of searching we finally had an offer accepted on a house we loved a few weeks ago. After a very awkward second viewing with the vendors, they decided few days later to pull out of the sale and withdraw the house from the market. This happened over a month ago, however the listing is still showing on the EA's website and Rightmove, Zoopla etc as SSTC. I asked the EA a few days after the withdrawal why the listing was still up and they said they left it to drum up more leads and would eventually take it off, but it's still there, taunting me every time I look for new listings and what's sold. Is it not misleading on the EA's part to show listings as Under Offer or SSTC when they have been withdrawn?
To give a bit of background, the vendors previously had a buyer who pulled out after waiting 7 months for them to find somewhere, closer to their children. They finally found somewhere and put the house on the market again, I viewed it the first day with the EA, offered straightaway and they accepted and cancelled all other viewings. Requested a second viewing, which was the vendor and his wife, but the reception was frosty to say the least. He wouldn't open the door to us at first, and only after several minutes of trying to convince him who we were, he reluctantly let us view but it was rushed and we left feeling very deflated. So it was no surprise when the EA called two days later to say they pulling out because they were not happy with the place they found after a supposed second viewing. After them searching so long, finally finding somewhere and then pulling out of the sale altogether rather than just finding somewhere else strikes me as an excuse. I could be wrong but it feels like the vendor decided against selling to us for reasons only he knows, but how do we know the vendor didn't just instruct the EA to sell to someone else hence why the listing is possibly still showing as SSTC.
I know I am most likely reading too much in to this and should probably let this go, because the vendor seems flaky and could have pulled out at any point further down the line after costs were incurred, but if the EA is acting unlawfully on behalf of the vendor, how will I know?

You're not going to buy this property so why do you care. Move on.

Move on. Life is too short for conspiracy theories. We all encounter curved balls in our private lives when we least expect them.3

Are you an FTB?

Again, they don't wish to sell, if they did they would have gone ahead with it. I wouldn't waste anymore time of this.1

It sounds odd, I don't see why a vendor would care who their buyer was but people can be odd sometimes.
Chalk it up to a bad (and unusual) experience and move on.1 -
Honestly , I’d stop trying to reason and question the vendors motives, you’ll never know the real reason. Just move on and focus on a new home. Once you find that new house you’ll forget about this property in an instance.2

You probably have a niggling hope still that this will resolve - There was a thread (last month I think?) recently about someone who'd waited patiently for ages for exchange, as the owners were looking for a house closer to relatives, but kept rejecting everything. They then came back recently asking for more money as the house had gained in value (due to their own delays).
Can't find it - but its a good idea of the reality of people who don't really want to move..Peter
Debt free - finally finished paying off £20k + Interest.2
