Requested a second viewing, which was the vendor and his wife, but the reception was frosty to say the least. He wouldn't open the door to us at first, and only after several minutes of trying to convince him who we were, he reluctantly let us view but it was rushed and we left feeling very deflated. So it was no surprise when the EA called two days later to say they pulling out because they were not happy with the place they found after a supposed second viewing.
Were the vendors not aware that you are coming?  How did you book second viewing? Through EA ?

The vendors' reluctance to let you view  is surely perfectly adequately explained by the assumption that they  already knew they were going to withdraw from the market and it would be a waste of time.

To give more context, I viewed on the Friday along with several other viewers. Made the offer through the EA within the hour, which was accepted on the basis all further viewings cancelled. Arranged with the EA to view again on Sunday with my partner and kids, their office was shut so vendors agreed to do it.

When we turned up, the vendor wouldn't accept that we were the viewers, seemed distrustful of us, hence why he stood talking to us through the glass door for several minutes before letting us in. He was under the impression he sold to someone different and we were grilled for a further few minutes and then followed around the house until we left.

I accept that they may have just changed their minds, but the impression we got was the vendor didn't want to sell to us personally. We are no longer interested in buying the house, but it just niggles that EA may have been economical with the truth and the house hasn't been withdrawn and sold to someone else instead hence why it is still listed.

The EA works for the vendor. Unsure why you are taking the rejection personally.

If they have decided to sell to someone else instead, that is their prerogative and it won’t change anything. Move on.
