However, if you have fallen in love with the property, you lost any negotiation power.Question is: Are Connells really communicating offers to the seller ? I do not think this is happening. Otherwise after my higher offer they should have at least acknowledge my calls and emails when I asked for the update after few days. They do not even want to talk. Not only that, It was me who chased them about my initial offer status, and then they mentioned that here is a higher offer. They should have mentioned about it on their own for the best interest of seller. And when I put higher offer, they have stopped responding at all now.All this is happening may be because I refused to take their in-house mortgage and other services.I am pretty sure sellers are also losing money if they are using Connells as their EA, because they are not communicating higher bids(if they exist) to other buyers who may like to counteroffer. This certainly has happened in my case. Why are they doing it? Because Connells business model is , lets not make money from seller only, squeeze the buyer too (by forcing the buyer to take in-house mortgage, conveyancing and other services)
I just wonder, people who are saying that they have sold houses through Connells very smoothly and happily, they might have actually lost the money. Because Connells are not giving chance for counter bids.

Like all Estate Agents, they're awful and only in it for themselves. If you can only find 2 complaints, I'd say they're doing a good job.Unless you can find a truly independent Estate Agents, their commission is based on not just the number of sales they make, but the number of overpriced mortgages and conveyancing products.I'll give you an example of how overpriced they are......Conveyancing. To sell (which is the easy bit), the Estate Agent's solicitor factory wanted £1250 to sell a £300k property. It only cost me £900 to buy the place and that included lots of extras - gifted deposit, searches and so on.Mortgage - We ended up using Habito. They were upfront about the costs - basically nothing as they make all their money from the kickbacks on the mortgage (which they were upfront about). They gave me a list of all the mortgages available to me (which basically matched those on MoneySuperMarket). They had a column which explained how much commission they made.Whereas the EA wanted £1k + whatever kickbacks they got (and apparently, they push you towards certain products which pay more)0

My point being that they apparently turnover tens of thousands properties a year.
I bet I can find you more complaints about PurpleBricks (now there IS a shyster company)0 -
We had issues when we bought our home (through a different agent) because we wouldn't use the 'recommended broker who had sorted it for all other sold houses on the estate already' (untrue, on pushing they revised down to 75%).To me it was the underhand way they tried to rope us into using their guy by hiding the sales pitch as checking affordability. We also had a broker to hand who had secured us bigger mortgages than the one we needed on our 2 aborted purchases.May you find your sister soon Helli.

My experience with Connells was very positive. We were selling through another agent (Bairstow Thieves) who were awful. The sales progressor at Connells was excellent and kept us in the loop all the way through the transaction. Her chasing and progress reports were pretty accurate too and she kept our chain together even when there were a few threats to pull out (usual moan about it taking too long).
The problem with reviews is that everyone who has a gripe wants to leave a negative review, but people who have had a good experience don't bother, so the negative reviews outweigh the positive reviews, which skews the real picture.

In a public forum people can rightly voice their positive views just as you can voice your negatives views. However you are on a crusade resurrecting threads about Connells months ago. Are you perhaps after compo?0 -
NoFaith said:@TheJP I am not stopping people to voice their positive reviews, but it seems you are quite offended when someonce voices his/her negative experience about Connells !! As I told previously, you are defending Connells quite hard.
As much as some people on this forum have had a bad experiences there will be some that have had good ones and i can rightly state that without accusations of being an insider.0 -

Just want to state that my experience with Connells was outstanding. I've bought and sold quite a few times and the team at Connells went over and above anything I have ever experienced with another agent. I am not, nor ever have been, an employee at an estate agents. I have, however, worked for a conveyancing solicitor so I do know the process pretty well Generally speaking, solicitors are not always very amenable to both their client and the agent continually phoning for updates on the same subject every day, so agents tend to be that annoying yappy dog that cause solicitors to sigh with irritation.0
