Connells estate agent experience

Hi, I am in process in buying a property. Vendor'ss estate agent is Connells. Initially there were quick feedbacks on phone. Really quick feedbacks in the span of just 5 minutes. Then they asked for to go for my financial eligibility through their in house mortgage agent. Their Mortgage estate agent was charging fee. I asked them I can get mortgage without fee. I told them, I won't be taking mortgage but you can evaluate financial eligibility. After that evaluation, I was told that vendor is not happy with offer, I increased the offer on the spot on call. I didn't get any feedback for more than 2 weeks. Then I sent them an email on their branch office email adsress asking about my offer. I immediatelly got call that there is another higher offer. They should have told me about that. I sent them revised offer in email, and they are not responding again. Is something fishy ?

I sold my house using Connells and they were exceptional.

FYI the EA don't have to tell you anything about other offers, they don't even have to tell you whether your offer was rejected. The EA wants to sell the house as quickly as possible whilst getting an offer the seller is happy with. They wont have a hidden agenda against you.

So buyers will be informed only when their offer is accepted?, otherwise they don't deserved to be informed at all ? Not even when their offer is rejected? not even when there is a counter offer and ask the bidder if they want to make counter offer for the best interest of seller? As per above definition, looks like buyer is at the mercy of estate agent !!

I’m pretty sure the EA will let you know if your offer was rejected - not exactly a good sales pitch for a salesperson not to let the unlucky bidder know, especially as it’s just plain good manners to do so.
They would soon lose out on significant custom if they followed that lead!

step away from this property and this EA branch. Obviously, they have tried to squeeze every bit of money out of you to no avail. Go and find a better place for you - good luck 🤞

I'm not saying that's what's happening here I'm saying that all an EA has to do is pass on the offer. For all we and the OP know is the seller wont entertain anything until a certain price threshold is passed.

Again I'm not saying that's whets happening here but can happen. I had FTBs view and their offer was ridiculous, £25k less because the kitchen and bathrooms didn't meet their high standards, i had to remove kitchen before completion and we had to complete by 10 weeks. I didn't respond to the offer, i don't know what Connells told them but I'm sure they got the picture.

My point was that the EA works for the seller not the OP, they raised that the EA should have told them there was a higher offer. The EA have no obligation to do so. Now the OP thinks Connells is out to stop them getting the property.

Connells are shady.  Should have played the game and pretended you'd get your mortgage via them and your offer would have magically appeared more favourable if remotely competitive.

I talk from personal experience with them.

Wouldn't touch them with a bargepole for anything I was selling.

Their 'mortgage advisors' are just in cahoots with the sales staff.  We ended up having to offer via the mortgage adviser!!!!!

    Total con merchants.

I was very frustrated as a buyer because how hard they pushed their mortgage services. They booked an appointment for me after I told them not to. Then they told me it was for a financial check before my offer could be accepted so I agreed. It was all a sales pitch and mortgage advice session. I refused and still got the house though.

It very bad form that they rejected your offer after you went through the procedure, not before.

I second this opinion. Also speaking from personal experience as a buyer, but from a different aspect.

The first agent to vanish from my city in the 2008 recession*. Don't know what happened to the customers or staff. Their advertising and image was lacklustre, so I wasn't using them.

*My agent also closed, but had the decency to drink himself into oblivion first!

TheJP, I have seen you have been defending Connells quite hard in other threads also. Are you from Connells by chance? ;)
