EDF

HI
I don't know if i can get any help through this forum Or Indeed get my problem highlighted to the media. I have recently had my new Electricity Bill in from EDF, they have increased my Monthly DD from £175.00 PM to £850.00 PM effective from the 1st May.
I have a Economy 10 Smart Meter and was switched to EDF after the collapse of Green Network Energy. I have tried to resolve this Via there Customer Service/Complaints Dept. and Also to Simone Rossi office. But Still no Resolution. I work for the NHS and  I'm now at the point of cancelling my DD as I can't I'll afford to pay this for something that is completely wrong, on a monthly basis until it's sorted. Please any help would be welcomed.

Give us some details of your actual annual consumption please.  Is your account at present in credit/debit ?

I'm a little surprised that GNE took you on as a E10 - I didn't think they supported it

Have you had the final account from GNE?

What tarifff are you on -  inc rates please
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

Do you owe them money (because you have used more electricity than you have paid for)?  The most common reason for a huge increase in a DD is that the account is in arrears.

Edit: and it's not unknown for a supplier to think an account is in arrears because the customer has misread the meter and supplied the wrong reading.

I have only switched to EDF as of October Last year and DD payments have been 4 due to the mandate being set up. In terms on My E10 GNE took me on as an E7 customer as I have a wet system and can alter when the heating kicks in, so I can run on E7 Tarif which is linked to a Nest Thermoset but based on the the monthly DD to GNE from Jan/21 @ £120.00 pm until it was cancelled in June'21 by whoever, and once EDF received the switching information, and I was advised that a Debit on £535.00 would be added to my account, and the monthly figure of £175.00 would be taken to cover existing usage and clear the deficit  What I didn't expect was to receive a bill stating that I had used 6809KW and 679KW at cheap rate between the 28th October 21-23rd March 22  I'm currently on a Deemed E10 with EDF which is the tariff suggested by them as the most economical. I hope this answers your question.

Let me try to make sense of this.

You have not paid GNE since June 2021, which resulted in a debt of £535 when you were switched to EDF and was added to your account.

A direct debit was set up by EDF for 175£, and you have paid 4 times up to now = £700. This means you have only paid 165£ for 28th of October 2021 to 21/03/2022.

The 6909KWh and 679KWh, what is night and what is day rate here? What were the rates you have been charged on, and what are the new rates going forward?

It seems EDF only supports E10 for the eastern region and I cannot find any tariff details on their site.

    679 doesn't sound right -   that's 2 units a day (or night); if the 6909 is night then @ 12p that's £840 - if its day then more like

Why only 4 payments - Edf became SolR last July/August. ?    surely should be 8/9 payments ?

You were underpaying with GNE and it looks like you still are underpaying EDF

I have a wet system and can alter when the heating kicks in, so I can run on E7 Tariff
If you have an electric boiler and wet radiators that will always be catastrophically expensive.  Nothing else costs more.
What I didn't expect was to receive a bill stating that I had used 6809KW and 679KW at cheap rate between the 28th October 21-23rd March 22
If you have an electric boiler and wet radiators you should be on a single rate tariff.  The vast majority of the room heating will be on the E7 day rate which will be even higher than the single rate.  Sadly, you have the worst possible system on an unsuitable tariff.
If you own the property and it's impossible to get gas or oil then your least worst option might be to get High Heat Retention night storage heaters.  Not cheap to buy, but check (e.g. with Citizens Advice) whether any grants are available, also Warm Home Discount, Cold Weather Payments etc.  A heat pump would be cheaper to run, but even more expensive to install so probably unrealistic.
If you rent, then the answer is to move, preferably to a property with gas central heating.

GNE went bust in Januay 2021. You have been an EDF customer for 15 months now.
Gerry1 is correct that you have a particularly expensive heating system and E7/E10 is unlikely to be the most cost-effective way to feed it. This is underlined by your recent EDF bill where you've used less than 10% of your electricity on the cheaper rate.

What does the latest bill say by how much you are in debt?

When EDF do their direct debit review they will try to recover the outstanding debt within the next 6 months, plus of course what they estimate your usage will be for the 6 months.

How much electricity do you use during the summer months?

From what @QrizB and @Gerry1 explained it seems that you are on expensive heating system and you are using a tariff that is not to your advantage. Also it seems that  in the last 15 months you hardly made any payments. It seems you paid 5 DD of 120£ to GNE (while you already were with EDF) plus the 700£ to EDF, a total of £1300. The last bill for October to March should be already higher than this.

OP hasn't been back to the forum since this morning, but based on the old EDF deemed rate card (thanks Gerry1) his winter bill for ...
6809KW and 679KW at cheap rate between the 28th October 21-23rd March 22
... works out as around £1800. Add £535 for the period from GNE going bust in January until October and you get £2300 or so.
If his total payments for the period are £1300 that puts him at least £1000 in the red today.
@Steve_1956 it would be great to get some more details of your current EDF account balance, your current and previous tariff rates and of your previous annual energy consumption.
What I didn't expect was to receive a bill stating that I had used 6809KW and 679KW at cheap rate between the 28th October 21-23rd March 22
When you say you didn't expect this, what *did* you expect? What have your previous consumption figures been, either annually or for that specific period? I see from your previous thread here that you've had this system for at least five winters so you must have a pretty good idea of how much electricity it uses?
