My real grudge is that the off peak shot up from 7p to 19p nearly three times the original. Day rate only went up a few pence in comparison.
This can happen when you were reaching the end of an older cheap fix, for most people on the standard variable rate the increase was much lower as their night rate was already at least 12-14p, so this is more about how fortunate you were to be on such a cheap rate for so long after the prices had already gone up significantly.
I know it doesn't feel like that for you though...

Thing is this wasn't a fixed tariff.
We were on Es economy 7 prepayment tariff. We paid higher than usual day rates but were much better off because of their low night rate. I checked regularly and you are correct in saying most were already higher. I couldn't get a better deal on direct debit it was that good. I think they'd made a mistake and have now rectified it unfortunately!

Yeah but you wouldn't use £25 a day otherwise your yearly usage would have to be much higher. At most winter to summer split is 80% so either you original calculation is wrong and sensational at £25 a day of your usage is more like 20,000 kWh a year.

Regardless like most of the population time to cut back on energy usage or other things to pay the bills. It's hitting everyone's pockets.
Winter usage is 2-3 months so 25%. I know this winter just gone my usage peaked at about £7 a day on old tariff. As the storage heaters decide how much charge to take on themselves this would vary according to outside temperature.
What I'm saying is if I use the same amount of energy this year it is likely to be £25 a day especially considering the likely increase again in October.
All calculations I've done take me from about £1400 a year to £2500 a year!

    Hi @Boogins

It still doesn't add up with your figures so I suggest you have a look at historical figures and you will know what you used in Dec/Jan/Feb last year down to the last kWh then you can calculate them accurately for the new price cap prices we have now plus (20-30% is the expected increase in October)

    (Your figures)

Projected £2500 a year for energy
Project £25 a day for the 3 months of winter is £2250

That leaves £250 for the rest of the year?

5% of your total energy over 9 months is pretty much unheard of.

What I don't want is you being surprised this winter so if you do have accurate kWh used in the winter months that will help planning for the costs this winter👍

@MsttyHistorically I've used 1462 kWhs in January this year which was my highest usage which coincidentally is 200 kWhs less than previous year.
Based on my current tariff I've worked it out to be £329 give or take a couple of pence!
My £25 was worst case scenario on the coldest days, although this might be an exaggeration.
This averages out at £10.61 a day!
I'm sceptical at this as we used £9 on the 1st of April when the price hike hit!
    We've used £3.78 today and 15.63 kWh

Doing my calculations based on 80% usage at night for current days usage works out about right! £3.37 plus standing charge of 42p. £3.79 total!

Without reading through the whole thread,so apologies if it's been mentioned or not,do you have a smart meter or a standard meter?.
If you don't and aren't a member of the anti smart faction you could request one as that would mean you could put an end to your guesstimates and tell you exactly what it's costing anytime you like.

I've got a smart prepayment meter so know what is being used. Only thing is in home display only holds data for overall consumption and not day/night rate, same as prepayment app, so without scrolling through the actual meter I'm just using an 80% night usage rate.

Well it does sound like you have done your sums, which is more than most but I think next would be to look at energy savings to be made especially as the price cap is still expected to rise come October. Maybe not the 30% predicted but certainly a rise of some sort.

We have not had our electric ASHP heating running since April 11th and averaging 10 kWh a day now (more than I want it to be but working on that) I am looking at not turning the heating back on til October and have had stiff words with the better half and dog on these new heating rules and for them not to gang up on me! We just heat water for showers etc once a day for 45 mins

With an ASHP you can't just fire it up for instant heat especially as our downstairs is all under floor heating so if we get a very dull day light the multi fuel burner with free wood (thankyou storm Eunice and the wood the previous owners left us) or grab the electric 2kW fan heater for a quick blast.

@Mstty I can appreciate what you're saying. I'd have had all heating off a long while ago. Unfortunately I'm out numbered and my wife and 2 kids win! We've got one heater on tick over to take the early morning chill off, much to my disgust!
We've only got a bath with no shower due to not being able to stand in the bath because of where it is situated! We heat one tank of water cheap rate and make it do!
Every light fitting is LED low wattage. I'm working out what so called 'vampire' appliances I can turn off without it being too annoying!
Will be seeing if the landlord would allow us to install a wood burner as this could help reduce electric use and we'd have a good supply of cheap/free wood if we were allowed.

That's a popular misconception.  You cannot get instant heat out of underfloor heating, however it is energised.  An ASHP with suitably sized radiators can heat up a house as fast as any other "boiler" although the fast heat may be proportionately more expensive.
