Received an email for an elderly lady I care for regarding her Outfox (electricity supplier) account - her fix ends in August. They invited her to renew - click on the link. Link led to a portal with only ONE option listed:
Clean E Fix'd X 29.0 for a monthly direct debit of (monthly estimate in light grey underneath) of £324.79. Did the math - that's £3897.48 for the year. (grief!!)0 -

I like most are genuinely terrified about these changes and just as baffled about the options to take.
We moved to a new house in April..4 bed terraced house. We are with EDF currently on the standard tariff. Like most we have been offered 3 fixed offers but genuinely don't know if it's worth it..all fixes are fro two years! See below our current tariff and new options..all comments are greatly welcomed and appreciated.
The new fixed tariff has an exit fee of £300 also. We would pay £330 p/mGet a quote fromBest switch and fix rates on the market currently and no exit feesRead the terms and conditions make.sure it's right for you. This is a fixed rate not bound by price caps but does come under the expect rise in October. To rejoin a price capped product in the future you wil have to switch to another provider at the end of your fixed rate as Green Energy are not bound by price caps and do not have to offer a product of this nature. If you are happy with a switch and fix then a switch at the end should they not offer you a competitive one at the end of your fixed rate this could be for you.I spoke to them and they told me on Sparkle its fixed until Sep 23 and no changes this October. Was I told a lie?0 -
Yes that's what a fixed rate is....fixed price per kWh. In this instance Sparkle is a fixed deal.
But not an all you can eat buffet they don't exist in the energy market🤣0 -

Personally, I think it's appalling that her electricity bill could more than triple in less than 6 months. (thank goodness it's summer)Also, they're in trouble with Ofgem. This would be a good time to make sure their account isn't significantly in credit and to think about switching to a different supplier.EDF will take customers on the standard variable tariff, or Green Energy UK (GEUK) have a fair fixed-rate deal with their Sparkling tariff. Just keep in mind that GEUK are exempt from the Ofgem cap so at the end of the fixed-rate period you'll want to look at fixing or switching, rather than leaving the account on their variable tariff. On her behalf, I'm looking at alternate methods of heating, but she's limited to electric.
Does she currently have storage heaters and an Economy 7 tariff? Those are likely to continue to be cheaper than any "modern" alternatives, unless she would prefer the expense of fitting a heat pump.So - has anybody any experience with or knowledge of Infrared Heating panels? I'm thinking ceiling mounted would be optimum both for warmth and (elderly) safety. My research suggests that the running costs are 30 to 40 % less than a convection heater.N. Hampshire, he/him.
