There are also unknown unknowns - the one's we don't know we don't know0 -
Problem is only one or two suppliers are allowing new customers to switch at moment. So most people stuck.0

Hi everyone,
I like most are genuinely terrified about these changes and just as baffled about the options to take.
We moved to a new house in April..4 bed terraced house. We are with EDF currently on the standard tariff. Like most we have been offered 3 fixed offers but genuinely don't know if it's worth it..all fixes are fro two years! See below our current tariff and new options..all comments are greatly welcomed and appreciated.
The new fixed tariff has an exit fee of £300 also. We would pay £330 p/m

This is a fixed rate not bound by price caps but does come under the expect rise in October. To rejoin a price capped product in the future you wil have to switch to another provider at the end of your fixed rate as Green Energy are not bound by price caps and do not have to offer a product of this nature. If you are happy with a switch and fix then a switch at the end should they not offer you a competitive one at the end of your fixed rate this could be for you.1 -
Hello
Received an email for an elderly lady I care for regarding her Outfox (electricity supplier) account - her fix ends in August. They invited her to renew - click on the link. Link led to a portal with only ONE option listed:
Clean E Fix'd X 29.0 for a monthly direct debit of (monthly estimate in light grey underneath) of £324.79. Did the math - that's £3897.48 for the year. (grief!!)
She's currently paying £102 per month.
Went to her account (I do all the computer stuff) and the standard variable rate they reckon will be £159.17/month. Until --- who knows when.
Personally, I think it's appalling that her electricity bill could more than triple in less than 6 months. (thank goodness it's summer)
On her behalf, I'm looking at alternate methods of heating, but she's limited to electric.
So - has anybody any experience with or knowledge of Infrared Heating panels? I'm thinking ceiling mounted would be optimum both for warmth and (elderly) safety. My research suggests that the running costs are 30 to 40 % less than a convection heater.
Thanks

Currently on a fixed rate until next year paying a DD of £232/month electric only with actual usage between £180-£200/month. As of next month they want to increase the DD to £280. Bear in mind in February (not fixed rate) my DD was just £60!
Can they increase it that much when they have no reason to? They can't say I'll use more in the winter as I have no need to use heating.
If you are in debt then the above might not fly.
Remember most people's usage is 60-75% October til April so factor that in your calculations to be sure you are covering winter.1 -
