Have you looked at Agile Octopus for electricity capped at 35p kWh and Tracker v3 for gas capped at 11p kWh?
    Thank you. Are these fixed?

The £100 per fuel exit fee would worry me on those prices. If by any chance prices drop in the new year it’s expensive to leave.

Absolutely true! Thanks for the heads up.

fotrebor, BG typically allows to change to another of their tariffs without penalty (you are, of course, starting a new contract & term) so that is worth a check.
The standing charge for electricity strikes me as unusually low in the current market - is that correct?
Thanks! That was definitely correct, I copied and pasted the values directly from BG's website. I also agree that it looked suspiciously low, but I originally thought it might have depended on our relatively low energy usage. (not sure my logic made any sense, but it was the only explanation I could give.)

Alas, it looks like I waited too long to pull the trigger. BG's website is now showing this:
Energy prices are currently so high that we aren't able to offer you a better deal at the moment – so it's best to stay on your current tariff or with your existing energy supplier for now.
If you're currently a British Gas customer and your fixed tariff is coming to an end, we'll be in touch to let you know your options.
Please come back and check again soon. You can find out more about the energy price increase here.

It seems that my only option will be to stay on variable. Thanks all for your help!

    Hi all
My fixed ends next week and I am useless with numbers.
Any advice on whether to take the fix or just roll on to standard would be appreciated.
With SSE paying total £76 per month and in credit on both electric and gas on the account

@bernies88 both the electric and gas rates per kWh are far higher than the estimated kWh prices in October 42p kWh Elec and 12.5kwh gas.

Ofgem should make their announcement on the October price cap early in August.

Friends laughed at me when I accepted a 2 year fix (electricity only - no gas at my home) from EDF in mid-April as it was about 20% more than the April 2022 SVR. I saw the writing on the wall, and did it despite Martin's advice at the time not to fix.

I checked out of curiosity today and the prices they offer now are much higher than my April 2024v2 fix (especially for peak rate):

  • Was looking to see what the British Gas fixed rates would be and they are not offering any for me.

I'm on the variable rate. Interested in knowing if others can't fix with British Gas.

When I first posted on this thread, Octopus were offering me a fix of 41.44p/kWh with SC 37.65p/day.

Now the fix on offer is 53.02p/kWh, same SC !!

(Current variable is 29.23p/kWh, same SC.)

I'm with the Utility Warehouse on a svr rate (I have no other packages with them, and I pay by dd).

Atm, I am paying (for my June bill):
kWh charged 111 (I think they mean 11.1?) for electricity with a standing charge of 13.93 per month plus VAT
kWh charged 249 (I think they mean 24.9?) for gas with a standing charge of 7.64 per month plus VAT

My total bill for June was £71.14.

My estimated usage over the last year is
1561kWh electricity - Projected bill of 576.26 per year atm.
and 8278kWh for gas.- Projected bill of 742.37 per year atm.

I have no exit fees.  Should I be moving elsewhere/staying put, staying on SVR or fixing?

Utility Warehouse offers no fixed rate deals for a customer that is only with them for energy only.
