    @piperm87

Have you compared you current fix or the current SVT against the new fixed tariff?

You always need to compare the SVT against the new fix.

    @gregbed
Give them a call, quite a few people were able to get them to agree to take Next Online now and only start it when the current fix ends. You are in the last 45 days of the contract and Eon seems to be generous in allowing to fix now and start later. This seems to be true only for those on a fixed tariff, not if you are currently on SVT, in this case they want to start immediately for most.

And than you can of course use also the cool off.
  • British Gas offered me the following yesterday (24 August 2022)
Exclusive Fixed Energy V25. This is a 12 month contract and does have an exit fee of £100 per fuel.

    Electricity
    Standing Charge 28.40 p/day - a reduction of 16.35 pence per day
Unit Price 65.455 p/kWh - an increase of 37.83 pence per kWh

    Gas
    Standing Charge 24.48 p/day - a reduction of 2.72 pence per day
Unit Price 19.419 p/kWh - an increase of 12.14 pence per kWh

How this will affect your bill if you are a British Gas customer will vary depending on your usage.
Taking 'typical' household usage from Cornwall Insight's website of 12000 kWh Gas per annum and 2900 kWh Electricity per annum I calculate this equates to an increase of a fraction over 128%
  • I emailed Sainsburys on Tuesday to ask about the tariff for Smooth Renewal v20 but then found the tariff so switched anyway.

They’ve just emailed me to say the v20 is no longer available!

Typical usage does not really help you, you need to know your usage to make a real decision.

After that you can use the calculator here.

Same offer here. It worked out at around that level of increase for me too. Once you get past a certain level of usage it’s the increase in the charge per kWh that really matters, and the drop in the standing charge makes little overall difference because the amounts become much smaller as a proportion of the total.

I won’t be taking them up on their greedy offer, which, incidentally, has increased by around 30% in the last month from their Exclusive Fixed Energy v20!

I’m just not convinced that gas prices are going to continue to rocket as some predict. The Telegraph article above makes very interesting reading about an alternative scenario.

My issue is i have a PHEV car which i have to charge every night for work. I've only had it since May so its not truly reflected in my estimated usage. Im trying to figure out whether it will actually be worth charging it once i move over..

You need an EV tariff then, assuming you have a smart meter.

If your current supplier don't have any, Octopus are one of the few suppliers still possibly taking on new customers.  Maybe have a look at what's available in your area - put your postcode in, don't press the 'get a quote' button, and select relevant filters https://octopus.energy/tariffs/
Octopus Go and variations are the EV tariffs.

Electricity only here with a BEV.

Was on octopus go from October last year fixed at 24p kwh peak with a 5p kwh off peak (0030 - 0430)

Got my 45 days till end of tariff and was offered intelligent octopus fixed for a year at 40.13p per kwh peak, 7.5p off peak (2330 - 0530). Switched early as the announcement tomorrow may well mean these rates disappear and new ones come in. Missed out on 6 weeks of the previous tarrif prices, but compared to what seem to be on offer elsewhere, this seems a really good deal

My renewal is up 10th Oct.

My out going eon fix is online V8 which offered me -

ELEC- 21.89p per KWH and a 35.37p standing charge.
GAS - 4.36p per KWH and a 36.40p standing charge.

Combined £1,836.08.  (about £121 per month)

    My renewal opportunities are

    Next online V20

    Elec - 67.11p per KWH and a 48.13p standing charge - Assumed annual usage of 4.279KWH. £3.047.87
    Gas - 16.85p per KWH and a 27.22p standing charge - Assumed annual usage of 14.627KWH. £2.564.21

    Monthly Cost - £467.67

    or Next1 Year v21

    Elec - 82.68p per KWH and a 48.13p standing charge - Assumed annual usage of 4.279KWH. £3,714.187
    Gas - 20.61p per KWH and a 27.22p standing charge - Assumed annual usage of 14.627KWH. £3,114.65

    Monthly Cost - £569.07

Their NextFlex is currently at 212.09 £2,545.06 which isn't bad but i know this will be going through the roof tomorrow when the price rises are announced.

    YIKES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Similar to me my fix ends and renewal is on 8th October with same renewals plans. Are we able to take the fix plan "Next online V20" now and cancel it within 14 days as there is a price cap announcement tomorrow?
I messaged EON when I took out my fix on v19, via WhatsApp service and they told me I am free to leave the foxed deal at any time, with no fees and even switch service with no issue.
  • Back in June I took a punt and moved from EON Next's variable rate to their Next Online V14, fixed for 1 year without exit fees.
This tariff has never appeared on Cheap Energy Club and therefore I'm unable to carry out further comparisons within CEC.
A representative told me that tariffs aren't entered on the CEC site if the energy company doesn't supply details.
  • I emailed Sainsburys on Tuesday to ask about the tariff for Smooth Renewal v20 but then found the tariff so switched anyway.

They’ve just emailed me to say the v20 is no longer available!
But you switched? If so, they should definitely honour it. They did for me (usually their Twitter customer service is great, but this time not so. So simply sent an email (they had emailed me about being an existing customer last week with the v20 info) and they've switched me into that tariff). It's worth persisting, but note that this tariff is for existing customers only.
