    The SVT they are comparing to is the April 2022 SVT. Ofgem requires them to a do a comparison to the current SVT. This SVT is predicted to go up on the 1st of October to 14.97 gas and 52.28 electricity, with further increases in January and April. This is the reason why the fixed rate is in comparison so much more expensive.

    @nursemolly
    The rates offered to you don't look in any way advisable to take out this fix. Anything can happen of course, but they are jus tto expensive to be considered at the moment.

    @Gravesberie
    Yes, as written above the SVT will increase in October by about 82%, and than again in January and April.

    Current predictions from Cornwall Insights (most likely outdated) from last Monday are

    If I allow my fixed tariff to run out, and revert to a flexible tariff the charge for electricity would be 29.58p/kWh, and 7.36p/kWh for gas.

    That will be SVT, so prices only until October when rates will probably double & then quite possibly a slight increase again  in January ...

    Please don't forget that are all predictions, nobody knows exactly what will happen for October before next week Friday, and there are also even higher guesses. For example here

    A fixed tariff is just an offer from them, and they can offer you whatever they want. As I wrote, I think it is to expensive.

    But you have to understand that rates are likely to rise further in January, April and July, maybe by far more than those predictions. The energy companies can’t afford to let you fix on a rate now, that will see them losing money in 9 months time. They have to protect themselves.
  • electric 80.54 per kwh and standing charge of 43.3 and gas 27.2 standing charge and 23.6 per unit for new fixed tariff !
    thats just insane. 60ish pence /kwh for electricity is what is currently the best going round, and to me thats high. 80 is daylight robbery. totally.

    Do you think fixed tariffs should be allowed right now......especially when some are charging extortionate amounts.....just a thought.
