EDF last night were showing me 244% above current payment fixed for 2 years (according to them we are actually overpaying anyhow at the moment) and a 200 cancellation fee....

Strangely I cannot get any change of tariffs today on my account...
Most likely they have now withdrawn the offered fixed tariff and there is nothing available now.

The comparison is always current SVT to fixed rate.

You will already see a big increase just going from your fix onto the current SVT, 100% are not impossible, so of course you will get a big NO if you compare a fixed tariff with a new fixed tariff.
Thanks for clearing that up...the key is point 3 on the calculator which says current standard tariff rather than fixed. So I will go for the new fix offered and hope SVT's will not be capped at current levels!

EonNext has just sent me this:

    Standing 61.53
    Unit 60.47

Is it better to just let my contract run out on the 3rd October and stay on their standard tarrif

    Standing 51.63
    Unit 28.41

I think he means Starmer's frozen cap, not next weeks cap announcement.

Not just the Starmer option for a freeze on the existing price cap - the other option put forward by the energy companies has no immediate cost and might prove more attractive. Still has the advantage of reducing the increase in the inflation rate.

    Suggestion .
To save money on your electric bill why not leave your solar lights in garden on all day and then bring them inside to light your house .

So I have been with a collective scheme run by my council over the years but they have stepped out of this years auctions as the market is too volatile so I'm fending for myself.

Currently with Shell Energy (they were the collectives choice last year) and my fixed deal comes to an end - end of Aug.

They have offered me the following Variable deal for the upcoming year with no exit fees. I'm in the South East of England

    Elec:
    Unit: 29.484p per kWh
    Standing: 41.65p per day

    Gas:
    Unit: 7.319p per kWh
    Standing: 27.22p per day

    So I'm screwed!

According to the MSE 'should you fix' calculator this deal is is 68% more than the current tariff.
    Strongly worth considering...
You may find this is a variable rate not a fixed so prepare for a huge increase in October.

That are the current SVT prices and not a fixed tariff you are quoting here. This prices will go up by over 80% in October.

There will be two tariffs in you email, the fixed offer and the above SVT for comparison.

Also you can't compare your old fixed tariff to the new offer, you compare current SVT to the offered fixed.

So for you this will most likely be the 68% and on top of that another 100%, that is over 230% increase if you compare to your current fix.
