So, that's what you put, only calling yourself 'the Defendant' not 'I'.

Why didn't you just alert the shop, to put your car on the exempt list for the day?
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
CLICK at the top or bottom of any page where it says:
Home»Motoring»Parking Tickets Fines & Parking - read the NEWBIES THREAD

Complain to the landowner. That is Plan A, and it is never too late to get a landowner cancellation.
Complain to your MP as well.

Do you mean a defence for a court claim?

Frustration of contract will come in to this as the defendant was unable to comply with the Ts and Cs because of the broken key, which was outside of their control.

Get photos of the site and signage. Use Google Streetview if you need historic images. UKPC signs are always pants, and the charge is always in tiny font.

I married my cousin. I had to...
    I don't have a sister. :D

Your thread title mentions a Defence.

Do you have a County Court Claim that you need to defend against?
If so, please tell us the Issue Date on it.

Upon what date did you file an Acknowledgment of Service?
Your MCOL Claim History will have the definitive answer to that.

With a Claim Issue Date of 7th April, and having filed an Acknowledgment of Service in a timely manner, you have until 4pm on Tuesday 10th May 2022 to file your Defence.

That's two weeks away. Plenty of time to produce a Defence, but please don't leave it to the last minute.
To create a Defence, and then file a Defence by email, look at the second post in the NEWBIES thread.
Don't miss the deadline for filing a Defence.

Do not try and file a Defence via the MoneyClaimOnline website. Once an Acknowledgment of Service has been filed, the MCOL website should be treated as 'read only'.
