Blackcats - thank you for the kind comment ref canopy saving. I follow a zero balance budget, I take sinking funds and direct debits out and what's left is what I live on, I was worried I wouldn't be able to save as much with the costs of bills rising but I've adjusted all of them up and at the moment its still working. I must point out though although I only get a state pension I don't have any debt and own my house so that really helps, and I have learnt to be frugal by necessity years ago when I had both debt and mortgage!!!

£41.95 at MrT - top up shop for the week, a few fresh bits and milk etc. Hoping to stretch it to Monday but will likely need more bread over the weekend. Does anyone else go through loaves of bread in the blink of an eye?Current;
Food - £52.19
Eating out - £51.24 (OH had a course and got lunch/coffee from coffee shop)5 -
Did a couple of 'big' shops for me to get some stocks in, it will all be eaten and doesn't include treats, all basics like Tom's, pasta, rice, cleaning products etc so total has jumped up. I had a mini meltdown when I saw the total but it's fine, at least I have enough to last me a few months. I will still need things like milk, yogurt, cheese and other bits and pieces. I'm not use to seeing a pantry stuffed with so much food so another challenge will be have to use it sensibly now!

Have only been doing odd bits of shopping as trying to use stuff from the freezer and cupboards. Have spent less than £15/£200 of the grocery budget so far but have spent most of the bulk fund as needed coffee beans and in order to get a good price we have to order 6 Kgs, means we get them for less than £10/Kg rather than the £12 they are to buy individually. That should last for about 5-6 months so plenty of time to build the bulk fund up again!

Greying_Pilgrim said:Ranking tea as 'successful'. LG munched their plant-based 'meat' balls and declared them delish (whilst the adults silently recalled the first few times these spheres were met with suspicious sniffs and tears...🙄🤣). I bought the dough balls from MrA's YS'd section back in March. They were that Xpress pizza restaurant brand. Mea culpa, I thought they were dough balls with the garlic butter already inside, but they had a garlic dip in the pack with them. Can't say as I'm sold - although LG gamely munched them (without the garlic dip), and liked them. But I'm glad I only paid 53p for 8 of them, as they are alot more expensive normally 😬 There was dip left over, so that was mopped up with an inexpensive slice of MrL wholemeal bread 😊
I made sponge cake with a handful of sultanas and the last of the glace cherries chopped up into it to fill the oven. LG had a slice of HM lemon cake and some greek yoghurt for pud. The doughballs won't be appearing in my shopping basket again - YS'd or otherwise - I'll stick with conventional garlic bread in future. The sponge cake is cooling, and then will be sliced up and put into the cake tin for snacks this week.
Lunch was pea soup - made with 3 tins of MrL marrowfat peas. 2 tins were blitzed with onion, garlic and stock and then the 3rd tin was added towards the end of cooking to add interest and 'heft' 😉A spoonful of mint sauce was swirled through with seasoning at the end. Just the job on such a cold, dreich day. LG had a cheese sandwich.
No shopping done/no money spent today.

First shop of the month yesterday, was really hoping to wait until Saturday or Sunday but no milk and no lettuce. I spent £16.33 in Lidl and £5.05 in Sainsbury on things Lidl didn't have (milk, cream, parsnips, kitchen roll,, beetroot, cabbage, lime cordial). I also got face wash and clothes pegs which I'm not including in the grocery budget although I have included kitchen roll (it'll last for years - chips maybe once every other month and occasionally pakora). I have loads in stock so didn't need much in the way of cheese, meat etc but did get some rtc sausage as have friends at breakfast tomorrow so will offer sausage and mushroom baguettes. I've never seen a f&v box at Lidl!
So, £21.38 spent. £103. 62 left.6 -
