So went into Ford - they aren’t taking any new orders and don’t know when the books will open again.  Mercedes was just too expensive.  Nissan Micra top of the range was very nice but seriously thinking about a Honda Jazz Hybrid which apparently will come in beginning of Nov.  Unless anyone knows anything different!
There are build slots available - just not for your local dealer.

    https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202204064365027?year-from=new&radius=1500&onesearchad=New&onesearchad=Nearly New&onesearchad=Used&sort=relevance&postcode=bb74pf&include-delivery-option=on&make=Ford&advertising-location=at_cars&model=Fiesta&page=1

It might be worth checking autotrader for "brand new" car availability then ringing the dealers in question RE: ordering.  At the end of the day you can buy the car wherever you want, and have it serviced by your local dealer anyway.
But these are in stock deals not the same as you being able to order a new car. Ford might be restricted to standard stock for now.

    Nope -

Lookers Ford Sheffield are delighted to offer the ability to Order this Brand New Fiesta ST-3.... Come on down and have a drive before building the specification just the way you want it
Maybe but they seem to have jumbled up text as they start by referring to a specific car ‘mean green’ and listing the extras. Then move into ‘building it the way you want’. It’s listed as ‘stock’ too. I’m not as convinced they don’t just mean take a stock car from us but if they genuinely are taking orders then that’s good.

BRAND NEW - IN STOCK seems to be an Autotrader status tag line, not something they've put in (it appears on a load of other cars from a load of other brands too)

They are quite explicit though in saying "offer the ability to Order" which would be a build slot.

Yes, it would have to be followed up on, however the original point i was making still stands - just because the dealer the O/P went to doesnt have build availability, doesnt mean other dealers dont have build slots, especially the bigger groups, so it would be well worth following up on things like this, if the O/P wants to secure a car for order.  It may well be the same for MINI too, and may be worth engaging with other MINI dealers.

Maybe Lookers have a large stock / on order pool and gamble that they will have in the queue one matching what you ask for.

So you were quite right.  Just because one dealer says they cannot provide anything meaningful date wise doesn’t mean others can’t.  Went to another dealer and placed an order.  I was also told that the road tax for JCW for the second and third year onwards at the first dealer was nearly £600 per year which isnt correct.

Thank you for all your inputs and very useful info.  I know this thread wasn’t very MSE but it’s really helped me.  I could  have waited until Oct to see what was around and would have got something of course but not a Mini I suspect.  If the order dates go kerputt then Mini will give me my deposit back.  They think Nov will be fine.

For a bit of fun… I need to choose the colour.  All Black, Island Blue with black roof, or Rebel Green with black roof.  I have a red car currently so would like something different.

The Rebel Green is free of charge.  The black is the most expensive option.

I would have the green.  It's the best colour - like BRG and remind me of original Mini Cooper

    Thats excellent news!

    Glad you got sorted!

Theres something special about MINIs.  I loved my modded 2018 Cooper S when i had it and a JCW would definitely be something i'd love to do at some point.  They really are a car you bond with rather than something you just drive

Strength and health to enjoy! :)

Rebel Green, RED roof, JCW bonnet stripes.

Red roof is (almost!) unique to the JCW and works very well with the Rebel Green.

Rebel Green with black wouldnt work IMHO.

Thank you all! Sometimes it’s you have to remember you just cannot take it with you.

Kids have grown up.  No more school fees,  House paid off.  Job needs me more than I need them, secure pension from old company. I have private medical insurance just in case.  Enough savings to cover any real emergencies so I thought I would treat myself.
