Will cost Barclays far more than £5 for a replacement card.Life in the slow lane0

It will probably costs Barclays less than £5 I read that is costs about £1.95 to £2.50 to produce debit/credit card.born_again said:Will cost Barclays far more than £5 for a replacement card.It could cost them less due to the volume of cards they create. The extra cost will include standard postage costs.Time is a path from the past to the future and back again. The present is the crossroads of both. :cool:0 -
I think most banks will add a cost to debit card replacements seems fair.
Not sure if they will add other costs e.g for paper statements etc0 -
This is the same with a lot of things, around 5% of people are responsible for 95% of online returns for example. These things all have costs, it seems far more rational that people pay for the costs they cause.born_again said:
Not as often as you think. But it tends to be the same people that lose theirs many times.Se1Lad said:Seems reasonable to me - I wonder how many people loose/damage their debit card more then once a year though?
Back in the old Maestro days. Where you had a issue number. You could only have 10 cards. Amazing the number that went through all 10 in a year. Which resulted in a lot of background work to sort it out...2 -
Unless I'm reading it wrong, the letter says that Barclays will always replace cards that have been subject to fraud or hve been stolen for free - so rather than reporting cards as lost (and having to pay the £5 charge for a replacement) surely people will just now report them as stolen instead ? Or are Barclays going to start demanding proof of theft such as police crime reports ?

Be interesting to see how they deal with cards which are defective. I've had a couple of chips die in the past - I wouldn't see a charge as reasonable in those circumstances.1

I would expect any report of a stolen card would, at the very least, require a crime reference number and possibly more questions around the crime to see whether they are at any increased risk of fraud..p00hsticks said:Unless I'm reading it wrong, the letter says that Barclays will always replace cards that have been subject to fraud or hve been stolen for free - so rather than reporting cards as lost (and having to pay the £5 charge for a replacement) surely people will just now report them as stolen instead ? Stolen cards agreed should be free, if you can prove it was stolen with the right info,
Lost Cards
Damaged Cards
Custom Pictured Cards
Should be paid for seems fair think all banks will follow suit

A crime number for a stolen card? Ridiculous. I wouldn’t even trouble the Police if my card was stolen, and to get a crime number would cost Tax Payers a lot more.0

Would be more hassle getting that.I would rather pay the fee to get a new card0
